Hello, GR. Long time no post.

I'm in the market for a Switch – specifically for Mario Kart later this month.

I've bagged a couple of Pro controllers, as they appear to be essential to a comfortable gaming experience.

I see that I can purchase the game itself either in physical form or via Nintendo's download store. Which should I choose? In addition to setting lap records with my own l33t skillz the whole set-up will be used by an exuberant four-year-old and his irrepressible two-year-old younger brother. Am I better off getting the game digitally so that it can't be sabotaged by my offspring? Or is the disk (?) setup sufficiently robust, in the sense that curious fingers won't easily be able to dislodge it, that I might as well get the physical version?

I used to be so much better at this stuff.

Many thanks in advance.

Given the game cards are covered in a bitterant to put off children from putting them in their mouths and they seem about the right size to be a choking hazard, you may want to go digital.

As an aside, MK8 (physical) is £42 at Amazon or £40 if you've got Prime if you choose to go physical.

Do you have a gas fire? The last tenants here had kids who "posted" game cartridges into that and burnt them to death, and years later almost choked us to death.

I've never thought about this before but seems to be a genuine problem. You probably could eat those cartridges if you wanted to, but they're not disks, so they should probably survive compared to the obvious issues with that.

And yeah they have anti nail biting chemicals on them. Try putting some of that on a thing, jam it in the child's mouth and take notes.

Also it's nice to see a member of the penguin club who isn't Gario.

This game looks good. Out tomorrow. £13.49.

Shame it's only 30fps on Switch but I think I'd have the option to go portable than play it on my PC.

Welcome back :-)

I'm going digital for exactly the same reason. My wiiU MK disk lasted about a month and I refused to buy it again. Although the switch cartridges are made of sterner stuff, I'm not thrilled about the swapping mechanism, so Zelda will stay in there and everything else will be digital.

mic! It's, what, 14 years since that summer on the porch? Time flies. Good to see you too.

And thanks very much, Mr Gecko and Harry, and everyone else.

Looks like digital is the way forward. Sensible policy for a happier Britain, and all that.

You might want to look up Nintendo's digital policy, it was archaic with previous consoles.

It's not as bad as portrayed, to be fair. The 3DS and Wii U both allow you to make a system transfer i.e. if you want to change to a different machine then you can transfer your games and data over. You can't download the games to more than one machine at a time, though.

The 3DS/2DS does, but if you dont ahve the original device it is a strawberry floating nightmare! It took 2 weeks to get my 3DS I didn't have any more unlinked from my account so I could use it on a 2DS!

Loving the yellow joycons.

:datass:

Will probably get those when I get around to buying a Switch. I also saw some light green ones in the Direct which I hadn't seen before.

There's a new NBA Jam style game coming to the switch, and a handsome chap made a thread for it right here that you can click on: t:nba-playgrounds-winps4xb1switch?f=2

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

For fellow fans of FAST RMX, the update set to add time attack mode and friends lobbies is due on the 19th

So happy we're finally getting this :D Just hope the friend lobby system is up to snuff and the time attack mode has leaderboards.
