PSP had a slow but serviceable resume playing from sleep. Vita did it much better and comparably to the Switch. DS and 3DS did it fine too - it just never seemed as impressive for some reason.

That's a lovely collection, Pattybean! It would be so cool if you played the fifth-from-the-right game at 21:00 each Tuesday :toot: .

But I'm not on the same level as you lot.

If you start playing with us then you will get better, Pattybean. When I started out I was dreadful but, three years later, I'm very occasionally called evil  .

Ah cool, that probably explains why everyone isn't in quite as much amazement as I am about this feature then! It really is a game changer though - that I know I can pull out the Switch and get 5 minutes of gaming in when waiting for the bus etc. is such a great feeling (and not just have to play some shite on my phone to pass the time!)

So I'm currently on a plane* and was going to play some puyo puyo Tetris with my girlfriend and get a message that the the joy cons cannot be used when the Switch is in airplane mode. False advertising, no?

The dream of milking cows whilst on a plane is over :-(.

You can use them, but you have to use bluetooth. It's a poorly worded message. Details here:
https://en-americas-support.nintendo.co ... /897/c/188
When Airplane Mode is activated, all wireless communication, such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, will be turned off. Some types of wireless communication can still be switched on manually when the console is in Airplane mode.
If the Joy-Con are detached from the console when airplane mode is activated (tabletop mode), you must tap the LCD screen and enable Bluetooth communications within System Settings > Airplane Mode > Controller Connection (Bluetooth), otherwise you cannot operate the console with the Joy-Con.

Nintendo has advised that some Switch games on cartridge will require a micro SD card in the device in order to play (most of) the game. The upcoming NBA 2K18 is an example; apparently there will be some of the game playable directly from the cartridge but the full game requires additional data to be downloaded to the card.

I guess this was always going to happen; we knew that the on-board storage of 32 Gb was relatively small and that the cartridges may post space challenges. Nintendo titles are usually pretty light on storage requirements but third party titles - such as NBA 2K18 - are often developed on consoles where plenty of hard drive space is available.

I wonder, though... is Nintendo skimping on the game cartridges? I don't think that too many storage-intensive games have been released so far and even something like Zelda BotW would probably fit on a relatively cheap 16Gb cart, whilst Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon 2 are a lot smaller than that. Rumours suggest that the current biggest cart size for Switch is 32Gb... not enough for the big games that we see on the PS4 and XBO. The danger is that some publishers may treat the carts - as some of them already do with console discs - as a download key, with the bulk of data then being downloaded to the micro SD card. This would be a little frustrating when the cost for carts is more than discs and then we also have to buy micro SD cards.

Tl;dr Switch carts may be too small for bigger games.

I could be wrong on the game but i thought that i read before that Lego Undercover on the switch required you to download a big chunk of the game as it isn't all on the game card.

Yeah, STAR, although that was a false alarm - Warner Bros said it had been "a mistake". Or, if you were cynically-minded, perhaps Warner were gonna use a smaller, cheaper version of the cart and get customers to download data... and then thought better of it after the furore  .

I can see them doing a revision with more onboard storage in a year. It's inevitable.

How big are downloads? I've got a 64gb card I'm not using to go in... it has 32gb already right?

32GB built in, but you end up with around 28 usable.

A lot of games are in the 1-5GB range so you can get a few before needing to expand.
