I would like to get a case but there are approximately 2,412 versions out there and, whenever I read up about one of them, "bad" aspects are highlighted and that deters me.

I bought a Zelda branded case when I bought my Switch. Just a simple soft case with harder plastic outer with 12 cartridge slots and a netted pi ket for wires and headphones etc. Didn't look too much into overall performance but does exactly what I wanted it too.

Yeah, thanks, guys - I was probably looking too hard into it. Will pick one up sometime and see how it goes.

I've got the black version of this. It's a nice fit, semi rigid outer shell and lots of game and extra storage.

I have played loads of rogue legacy on ps4 and Xbox one, if you have a switch and not the others I'd say give it a look it's brilliant.

I got a kit in a Amazon sale, screen protectors, plastic joycon guards a case etc for £10 I put the screen protectors on and found the plastic guards made the joycons a little bigger and help my hands, but as for carrying the machine I ended up getting this second hand sonic bag with two compartments, I shove the switch in one games and power adaptor in another.

Something I probably couldn't describe as essential but that I was very pleasantly surprised by was buying this grip for my Switch when using it in handheld mode -

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B077V5 ... b_pd_title

Since it was 8 quid I thought "what the hell" and grabbed it while picking up screen protectors and the Orzly case. When I put it on, it instantly justified the purchase. It makes the console feel so much more ergonomic in my opinion. Effectively what the WiiU gamepad should've felt like rather than being as chunky and cheap-feeling.

The only downside is having to remove it for the dock or to use the joycons separately, but so far I haven't used it in handheld with them detached.

Also has the bonus of fitting perfectly inside the Orzly case whilst on the Switch.

For what it's worth this is the case I opted for,

https://www.amazon.co.uk/OFFICIALLY-LIC ... d_pd_title

Seems to offer decent protection, comes with space for 8 games plus an internal pouch for more storage of games or other things.

Thanks everyone for the responses, you guys.

I'll get a case and some screen protectors and see how we go. If I find it awkward or uncomfortable in any way then I might consider the Pro Controller and/or a grip of some kind but sounds like they are very much a personal preference so I won't get either immediately.

One other question though: these rumours of an updated Switch... Any truth to them? Seems silly to have waited this long only to jump on board just as they release an upgrade!

If they do do a revision I very much think it will be a cheaper model. One they can sell as close to the £200 mark as possible. They will want as many people choosing the Switch over the 3DS as possible but the price keeps a lot of people away. If they can do a handheld only model with no docking capabilities and maybe even fixed joycons and bundle it with a game for around the £200 mark that would be a big step in the right direction.

I think they will wait for the next gen Switch to push better performance.

Oh man, I'm super tempted by this...especially as I have the Orzly case!

I'm actually generally fine with the undocked Switch ergonomically, all the same I know from experience using grips on past handhelds (3DS XL and PSVita) how much a grip can improve. Heck I can't stand to use the Vita 1000 now without the grip

EDIT: Reading the customer reviews, reception is mostly overwhelmingly positive but with one or two gripes about the L/R buttons being a little less accessible with grip on. Have you found that Heskimo?

Something to consider, Base.com have Lost Sphear on Switch for £13ish and Game are offering half price selected new releases when trading in a specific game (which includes Lost Sphear). Might be a relatively easy way to get Smash Bros or Pokemon for around £38 (if they're £50 in game).

I go along with that thinking, Doom. Nintendo has to find a way of shifting the more budget-conscious chunk of the 3DS family market onto the Switch, and lowering the price point is a key factor in enabling that migration.

With the New 2DS XL being around £135, and not really selling too much nowdays, it feels like a tough target to get a Switch device near to that pricing point, though. You could drop the dock but that is relatively low cost to produce anyway and, perhaps more importantly, you'd lose the meaning behind the branding.

Personally I'd still rather carry and play my 3DS on the move than my Switch, due to size and battery life. It's a bit of a challenge for Nintendo!

I'd be tempted to buy that grip and then cut off the entire middle section. That way you have the grips on the joycons but the main unit can still be docked with them attached.
