Trouble is Gamecube emulation takes a fair amount of power. The Switch is running what is essentially a mobile cpu from 2015 which has been under clocked. The best top end phones today have just started to be strong enough to emulate GC successfully.

I'm not saying they couldn't do it. After all Nintendo have a knack of extracting performance out of lower powered chips and I'm pretty sure they could develop their own GC emulator that would play nice with the Switch hardware.

Maybe it's in development but not far enough to warrent them putting the assets for it in the eShop yet? Let's hope.

For me it's Rouge Squadron 2 (praying they bring the series back!)

They also have Wii games running in HD on the Nvidia Shield in China which is essentially the same hardware as Switch.

At this point though I think I would prefer them to continue just releasing HD remasters of GC and Wii games, we got Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD (Which I fully expect to come to Switch at some point)

Gimme that HD Sunshine Ninty!!!

This feels a bit more reasonable. Excellent!

Even as a U owner... I would love to see a Wind Waker / Twilight Princess HD Double Pack arriving on Switch!

Fair point, well made. I was mainly thinking of when it's in handheld mode. Docked mode wouldn't be a problem but handheld is another question in regards to maintaining a semi (giggidy) respectable battery life etc. Either way I have no doubt they could do it if they wanted too.

I believe the Shield has more ram available to it? (don't quote me on that but I think it has 2gb more) plus the cpu in the Switch is an under clocked version of what's in the Shield.

But yes I agree with you I think I would rather just get HD remakes of the titles. I never owned a Wii U so would happily buy a HD version of Windwaker that can be taken out and about!

I think as both a switch and wiiu owner, the switch could definitely do with more Wii u ports of currently available games.

On the U, WW was 2.6 Gb and Twilight 4.5 Gb. At, say, just under 8 Gb total it feels reasonable thst the duo could be put out on a cart. Potentially the first-ever Zelda double pack!

Now watch as Nintendo punts them out at £49.99 each on eShop only  ..

Its definitely not got more RAM, it may be that more of the RAM in the Switch is dedicated to the OS. But I don't think it would make any difference for emulation of these games anyway.

This save backup issue is very frustrating. You could even backup your GC saves by copying them from one memory card to another - what am I supposed to do if my Switch bricks eventually?

Mario Kart Double Dash, with the Colossuem/Gale of Darkness duo coming a close second. Neither of which will ever get HD remastered.

Sorry jawa but I couldn't resist...

Wind Waker's original GC release was sold with a ported copy of Ocarina of Time on a seperate disc within the same game case. This would be the true first Zelda double pack.

Also on GC, the Zelda Collector's Edition included four full Zelda titles on one disc: Ocarina, Majora's Mask and the two NES Zelda titles.

Finally, the GBA release of A Link to the Past also included the original Four Swords game on the same cartridge. To what extent you might consider that a seperate game entirely depends on how generous you're prepared to be, but Nintendo certainly intended it to be regarded as a game in its own right.

My Pro controller arrived. Haven't played with it much, but I like it.

I had a quick go on Zelda last night to see how it felt - I never usually play games in front of my son as I'd usually rather be interacting with him, but I really was just trying the controller. He's only two and half but he became utterly engrossed in Zelda. "Daddy! Find more monsters! Find more monsters! Monsters gone!"

I then became worried it'd give him nightmares, but he had a massive meltdown when I turned it off.

But yeah, the controller seems nice.

Also I imagine there are more overheads and limitations presented by running the emulator through Android as the Shield will be doing - on the Switch they will be able to work "closer to the metal" and hopefully get better performance out of any potential emulator.

Would be the first Zelda remake double pack! I believe the first is the GBA games Zelda: Link to the Past which has Four Swords included. Yea it wouldn't surprise me if they did try it on! Would happily pay £34.99 for a cartridge double pack!

Maybe not. There is obviously a reason why GC isn't listed on eShop. Could be performance issues, could be they prefer the ideas of releasing HD remakes, could be something else! As long as we get the games I don't mind how :D
