Good to know, cheers Jawa.

I was worried I'd lose my Taiko for a minute there, so I chucked my toys out of the pram. :slol:

The new, paid for, Nintendo Switch Online service launched today. A firmware update is available for the system and the controllers plus you can start a free 7 day trial to try on the new NESflix service they are offering (just be sure to turn off auto renew if you don’t want to pay when the trial expires)

What a crock of gooseberry fool the online stuff is. I might still end up buying it, but Nintendo are trying their damnest to put me off.

it is pretty darn shite, but if I guess the value is much better when you get a family membership and split it between 8 peeps.

Did the update. Now my right joycon seems to disconnect during gameplay when it feels like it. Had no issues before.

:?

EDIT- yeah just caused me to die in one of the Hollow Knight boss rush things. :x

Not yet, i’m waiting until I beat Spider-Man before I pick it up.

It will be my first time playing it, looking forward to seeing what all the hype was about.

Planning to pick it up, also for the first time. Don't want to see it cut by a third in price two weeks later though...

I bought Undertale, played about an hour on Tuesday, it's my first time playing it.

I've posted on here before about Earthbound being one of my favourite ever games, so I have a feeling this will be something I'll enjoy.

Undertale is one of the best games of the generation. You're in for a strawberry floating treat.

I found it underwhelming and never finished it - having recently played Earthbound before I played Undertale the art style felt incredibly derivative and the whimsical humour an inferior imitation.

Also add another "update didn't fix my dodgy joycon". I really should send it off to Nintendo but it's a lot of effort.

Definitely try finishing it if you haven't spoiled yourself. The whole concept of the game and story is very immersive with some cool twists. Plus it's short, so, yeah. The story and characters are probably the main draw though. The gameplay is great, but there's not much of it, and outside of battles it often opts for a cheesy gag over an actual puzzle.

I got up to the fight with the spider queen and after dying couldn't be bothered to go through the lengthy battle again. I also then found out that even though I wasn't killing anyone I couldn't get the pacifist ending on my first playthrough which sounded very dumb.

Spoilers.

Kek, not sure what you did to negate the pacifist run, but are you sure you have? I think I might know what you're referring to. Don't want to spoil anything, but as long as you don't kill anyone you will get it.

I read you have to do a neutral route playthrough first

I never played Earthbound so didn't suffer from prior knowledge of the setup but if you weren't charmed by Papyrus and Sans then I doubt any of the rest of it would hit.

Saying that, the whole game is just...frustratingly intelligent*. The narrative loops and devices it uses are, and I'm choosing this word intentionally, genius and the characters are all incredibly interesting takes on rather tired tropes. The multiple endings (not all of which I've seen) are also incredibly well handled as they require actual thought in order to unlock, rather than the arbitrary "Good" and "Evil" type playthroughs of games like Dishonored and Mass Effect.**

Also, the genocide run turns one of the most charming games in years into one of the most terrifying. Seriously. It's horrific.

I'm genuinely jealous of people playing it for the first time.

* In that Toby Fox is strawberry floating 24 and he's made one of the best written games of the generation, entirely by himself. Urgh.

** I suspect the reason you need to do a neutral run-through first before unlocking the chance to get the Pacifist ending is that not all of the 'good' choices are actually good. Once you're familiar with the world, you're more able to make informed decisions in order to actually play the best route.

EDIT: Also, the music is strawberry floating god-tier
