Hey guys, I hope y'all can help me I have got a bit of money ready to buy a Switch and I have a couple of questions:
First of all there any accessories that are essential?
I will be using it a lot for local games (ie Mario Kart, Mario Tennis) which controllers would be the best to pick up? I hope the wired ones will be fine and I may get a pro controller (probably only 1)
How about the Joycons, is it worth buying a 2nd set?
Are there any games that require a certain controller?
Arms looks like it might worth a punt, but does that require joycons? And is that 4 player on one switch?

If youre going to be taking it somewhere with you then a case would be a good buy, Hori do a nice hard case that has padding and a holder for a few game carts. It has a double zip so you can unzip it just enough to get the charger in and let it charge while in the case too which I think is a nice little touch.

8bitdo controllers are superb and they work with the Switch out of the box, you can also get a bluetooth adapter from them and use Xbox or PS4 controllers on your Switch. Its kind of amazing how easy it all is to do and its definitely worth a look if you want some cheaper controller options.

Personally I dont think so but then it depends on how much you need the motion control for player 2. For something like Arms its prety much essential I believe but I cant think of anything else its vital for off the top of my head.

Nope, everything will work just fine with the bundled Joycon though some games will feel better with a pro controller or a controller with a proper d-pad, a lot of that will be personal taste though.

Dont own it so dont know for sure.

The official pro controller is excellent and I recommend it. Dat HD rumble. :datass:
Joycons are quite expensive so unless you foresee a lot of local MP action, I'd hold off getting another set.
I played the Arms demo with the Pro controller.
I don't think any game requires Joycons specifically.
I'm pretty sure Arms has 4 player local MP.

If you're going portable you'll need a case, otherwise you should be good to go.

An extra pair of joycons is the cheapest official way to four player gaming, but using proper controllers is way preferable for the vast majority of games, and third party controllers are cheaper. Just be aware that the cheaper controllers don't support motion controls and rumble - you'll probably be fine without them.

Don't forget you can plug in the gamecube adapter and gamecube controllers will work too.

Whenever we got intimate you'd always be thinking about Toad instead of me.

Some boys never change.

dream on sunshine youd have never had a chance with me

That was the problem; Toad was always in the way :/

Who do you main?

As for Octopath, I'll probably get it after Hollow Knight. Though I still have Xenoblade 2 to play. It's a bit of a slog atm with more cutscenes than actual play, but the play feels good and the story is somewhat entertaining.

i'm using blaziken on pokken.

I have this one and it is superb. Proper dpad for 2D stuff but has all the buttons and sticks if you want to use it for newer games. Syncs right out of the box, no messing around, took less than 60 seconds to unbox and get playing. Can pick it up from Amazon, just make sure you get the proper one with the pal SNES colours.

I also have a wireless 4 face + 2 shoulder button NES style pad, they dont make it any more (you can get a newer, less nice looking version though) but it is also superb. It came with a wireless adapter for the NES mini so I dont have to worry about cords or anything like that when I use there and it can also connect to Raspberry Pis for other retro gaming shenanigans. I cant recommend 8bitdo stuff enough, they are genuinely fantastic.

Just finished Celeste. Loved it. Checkpoints are perfectly balanced so you always feel like you've got a fighting chance and well the story is amazing. I know there are b side levels to do but I'm not sure my thumb can handle doing everything.

Very creative game.

It took me far too long to realise what the "mistake" in that video was.

Oh. Wait. I never saw the crucial linking part of it. Yeah... That's funny.

B-sides aren't even all the game has left, but fair play if you stop where you are!

Switch has had two incredibly good indies this year in Celeste and Hollow Knight, I am happy for it to be a Nintendo + Indies machine if this is what we can expect.
