Yeah, Octopath Travelers. I guess we won't know just how good it'll be until it releases or reviews drop, but the signs are certainly looking promising. Lots of people saw Bravely Default as a spiritual successor to Final Fantasy V (particularly the job system), Octopath is looking like it might be Final Fantasy VI's spiritual successor, from the visual style to system mechanics. One of the devs literally suggested as much recently, which seems to have elevated expectations and hype. I adored the demo, personally. I didn't play the second one because I'm saving the start of the game for when it arrives.

Exactly what I'm doing, loved the first demo and I can't wait to start it and be able to play more than 3 hours when it comes out. Only slight downside is not knowing who I'll start as, out of the characters available in the first demo I definitely preferred the dancers story.

That was the problem; Toad was always in the way :/

Who do you main?

As for Octopath, I'll probably get it after Hollow Knight. Though I still have Xenoblade 2 to play. It's a bit of a slog atm with more cutscenes than actual play, but the play feels good and the story is somewhat entertaining.

It's great to see Octopath is on everyone's minds ahead of its release on Friday. We have a separate topic that can be used for all things Octopath :toot:

That's a very interesting view - I'm nearing the 50 hour mark and would say that there's a lot more gameplay than cutscenes. While some of the cutscenes can be longer than other games, they don't seem too onerous compared to other JRPGs and the huge world to explore gives me a lot of time between story elements.

Fisher, dude, I'm genuinely baffled that you didn't comment at all on the huge interest in your posting style that filled the thread yesterday. I had thought you may have wanted to interact a little bit.

As for the Octopath chat... I didn't try the demos but the game certainly looks good. I'm not gonna be picking it up - at least for a while - but I will be looking out for what you guys think of it.

I was hoping to get Treasure Tracker this week but now I'm wondering about Octopath instead... and I've got about an hour to decide as I'm out today and will need to Switch my order if so. Hmmn.

Edit: I've cancelled Captain Toad; don't want to splash out on it when I can play the U version. Will take a look at the Octopath demo tonight (if it's still available?).

Way to prove you don't even read the only thread you post in.

I've decided to cancel my Dark Souls preorder with 365games and go for Captain Toad. They've got it for sub £30 at the moment, you can also get £2.50 quidco bonus and 365 are giving 10% back in player points. Seems like a decent deal with Amazon at £35.

That's why I said "atm". I'm like 5 or less hours in lol. I'm enjoying the character development and clear setups. It very much seems like I'm watching an anime. Looking forward to when the real game starts. Couldn't help but laugh when after a cutscene it loaded me into a enclosed area with nowhere to go but forward and after literally a few steps, started another cutscene.

I’ve got Captain Toad in order for this week (traded my Wii U version as soon as this was announced) and I also have a pre-order for Go Vacation which is out at the end of the month.

In terms of ‘Nindies’ is anyone picking up Patobox or Pool Panic this month? Both look really good, I like the look of Runbow as well.........too many games!

I never bought Captain Toad on Wii U, just borrowed my brothers copy, so don’t mind paying this time round to play it again.

Looking forward to it, it’s a lovely game

I had that very moment in mind when you said 5 hours or less  I agree, the start can be quite slow but it's nothing unusual from what I've played of JRPGs and it opens up hugely after not very long.

Yeah, I've abandoned Xenoblade 2 for the moment but at the beginning it did just seem like cutscene after cutscene

There are a lot of cut scenes in Xenoblade 2. I think about 20 hours worth
