It's amazing to think that it has been over three years since Donkey Kong Freeze and yet we have not heard a thing about Retro Studios. I'd guess that whatever they have been doing was originally Wii U-focused and, probably over the past year, they've moved over to the Switch. It's intriguing that nothing has been shared!

I'm hoping the Pokemon Stars rumour was false and they are hard at work making a brand new title built from the ground up on Switch rather than re-use the existing Sun & Moon stuff.

They could be working on both Stars and a new game perhaps? If Stars is a case of taking Sun/Moon and upscaling a lot of the assets then it could be being worked on independently of a new game, particularly if they're getting some support from Nintendo's own studios on it.
I think we'll get our first look at Retro's new game at E3 but I think it'll definitely be a 2018 release, this year already has plenty going on from a third party point of view and if we get Pokemon Stars and Super Smash Bros DX to add to the Christmas line-up then there's no point eating into its sales. I know most people are hoping they're working on a big new Metroid title but I'd really like to see what they could do with Eternal Darkness, be it a remake, reboot or a sequel.

Assuming that whatever they were working on was scrapped and they've actually got nothing.

That could be a possibility, HSH, and it would explain why we've heard nothing. Maybe they've started on a fresh, Switch-focused idea during the past few months.

I never really considered Pokemon. That could potentially be make or break, especially if they do their first ever fully 3D one. Nintendo should let them use the BOTW engine.

I think stock has hurt it here, as well as being in March. It's sold out everywhere, so there's no chance of getting sales at the moment through word of mouth or through impulse buys.
It's also just before the end of the school year, so kids are concentrating on exams to enter high school or whatnot, so no parent is going to buy them a console. The kids I talk to are looking at getting on with their New Year money.
It's definitely captured these kids' imagination, but they can't exactly afford it.
Weirdly, most of my kids between the age of 12-15 here own a Wii U. Splatoon is massive. Wouldn't surprise me if people are waiting for that and just getting Zelda on the Wii U.
