It's amazing to think that it has been over three years since Donkey Kong Freeze and yet we have not heard a thing about Retro Studios. I'd guess that whatever they have been doing was originally Wii U-focused and, probably over the past year, they've moved over to the Switch. It's intriguing that nothing has been shared!

I'm hoping the Pokemon Stars rumour was false and they are hard at work making a brand new title built from the ground up on Switch rather than re-use the existing Sun & Moon stuff.

They could be working on both Stars and a new game perhaps? If Stars is a case of taking Sun/Moon and upscaling a lot of the assets then it could be being worked on independently of a new game, particularly if they're getting some support from Nintendo's own studios on it.

I think we'll get our first look at Retro's new game at E3 but I think it'll definitely be a 2018 release, this year already has plenty going on from a third party point of view and if we get Pokemon Stars and Super Smash Bros DX to add to the Christmas line-up then there's no point eating into its sales. I know most people are hoping they're working on a big new Metroid title but I'd really like to see what they could do with Eternal Darkness, be it a remake, reboot or a sequel.

Assuming that whatever they were working on was scrapped and they've actually got nothing.

That could be a possibility, HSH, and it would explain why we've heard nothing. Maybe they've started on a fresh, Switch-focused idea during the past few months.

I never really considered Pokemon. That could potentially be make or break, especially if they do their first ever fully 3D one. Nintendo should let them use the BOTW engine.

I think stock has hurt it here, as well as being in March. It's sold out everywhere, so there's no chance of getting sales at the moment through word of mouth or through impulse buys.

It's also just before the end of the school year, so kids are concentrating on exams to enter high school or whatnot, so no parent is going to buy them a console. The kids I talk to are looking at getting on with their New Year money.

It's definitely captured these kids' imagination, but they can't exactly afford it.

Weirdly, most of my kids between the age of 12-15 here own a Wii U. Splatoon is massive. Wouldn't surprise me if people are waiting for that and just getting Zelda on the Wii U.

To release any console in the first few months after Christmas is a bit daft, really. Parents aren't exactly going to be keen on shelling out ~£400 so soon after the big X.

To be fair, it's £210 here so not massively expensive.

I also think it's probably a product that benefits more from word of mouth and being in the public knowledge than sort of held back for ages and advertised without being on shelves.

I don't think a March launch is a bad idea if they can keep people talking about it up until Christmas. It's a product that you want people to see or hear about and go out and buy it there and then, instead of putting a preorder down for October or whenever.

The Wii, remember, became a phenomenon once it had been out for about a year. Hypothetically I don't think some of those buyers would have bothered had it been an up-and-coming product with a future release.

More than 4.7m Nintendo Switch consoles have been shipped since the platform's launch at the beginning of March.

Nintendo shifted 1.97m of those during April, May and June, despite limited stock being available worldwide. It's an impressive start - and crucially, unlike Wii U, one which as yet shows no sign of losing momentum.

So, does Switch have legs long term then? Early results are certainly promising, but we all know that doesn't mean a great deal when it comes to Nintendo these days - and it is still early days.

Don't see why not. I think some of the third parties whose games have skipped the Switch are looking a bit silly right now.

Splatoon 2 sounds like it's don massive in Japan. 671K in three days.

Doing better than 3DS and Wii U, great considering it's not had it's first holiday season yet.

DS first 4 months: 5.27 million
Wii first 4 months: 5.84 million
3DS first 4 months: 4.32 million
Wii U first 4 months: 3.45 million

I wonder how much better it would be if it was always in stock at retailers?

Seems like they're starting to sort their stock levels out now.

They'll need to be ready for a big holiday season with release of Mario especially as the supportinint catalogue behind it will be looking very strong by then.

UK sales of Switch are slower compared with other markets. But doing ok. Currently ahead of Xbox One for the year (but well behind PS4)

Great to see it's doing well. Should get quite a boost later in the year too!

It's odd how perception works. The XBO appears, generally, to be regarded as a sales flop by "core" gamers.... whilst the Switch is seen as being a hot seller. I wonder by how much the Switch is ahead of the XBO?

I think it helps that the Switch only had to do well compared to the Wii U to be perceived as successful, whereas the Xbone was in direct competition with the PS4.
