Nintendo Switch hardware sales have now hit 34.74m units - almost triple the Wii U's final tally, and a third of Wii's final total. It has overtaken N64, which sold 32.9m.

More than 4.7m Nintendo Switch consoles have been shipped since the platform's launch at the beginning of March.

Nintendo shifted 1.97m of those during April, May and June, despite limited stock being available worldwide. It's an impressive start - and crucially, unlike Wii U, one which as yet shows no sign of losing momentum.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017- ... our-months

Speaking to retailers this morning, Nintendo Switch has sold around 80,000 units in the UK during its opening weekend.

That's double the number of Wii U consoles that were sold during its opening weekend (40,000 back in late 2013).

It's not as high as 3DS' debut, which was 113,000 according to Nintendo. Nor does it come close to the PS4 launch (250,000) or the Xbox One launch (150,000).

However, it is a strong and steady performance for the machine. There wasn't a huge number of units pushed into the channel (some units were sold out at major retailers) and the marketing and PR campaign was truncated and arrived late in the day. Retailers tell us that they were very happy with the launch and one store even declared: "Nintendo is back."

Late 2013? Terrible reporting from gamesindustry.biz. Sad! #alternativefacts

There doesn't seem to be much advertising for it.

The N64 sold 20,000 at launch (but that was all Nintendo shipped to retailers).

Price and the fact there is only one game I want has stopped me buying one

Do not pre order games from Amazon!

An encouraging start, but it's long term Switch's success should be judged. If it's still pulling in good numbers come this time next year all should be well.

That number would have been so much higher if the price wasn't so high.

Don't all these machines sell out at launch, so it's just a list of how many of each console got shipped?

I can get that some people find the price a little too high, especially if there's nothing else that interests you beyond Zelda just now.

But it's in that middle ground between the Wii U and Xbox/PS4. To get something of that level of power down to a slim, handheld form factor was always going to translate to a higher price than the equivalent made with standard components.

The price is probably as high as they could have taken it without putting a lot more people off. Certainly if it had been £300+ I'd probably have held off a little while longer.

It's £210 in Japan. I know stuff costs more when released internationally but a £70 price difference?

#brexit

I wouldn't have bought one at launch if Zelda wasn't coming out for it. I've got a Wii U but the prospect of a home console Zelda that I could also play on a handheld was just too good.

I never bothered with the Wii U until Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate came out. Can't remember the full launch lineup for that system but the only ones I was interested in Were NSMB Wii and Zombie U and neither of those were system sellers to me.

Mario Kart, Mario Odyssey and Zelda at launch would have sold loads more units.

My observations:

If the Switch sold 80,000 we can assume Zelda on Switch sold about 80,000. The Switch version sold 3.5 times as many as the Wii U version. Therefore the Wii U version sold about 23,000. The Wii U version of Zelda is one place ahead of 1-2 Switch in the all-formats charts. Therefore 1-2 Switch sold less than 23,000, or around a 1 in 4 attach rate.
