Just thought I'd bump my favourite ever 'Wii U to be discontinued' topic.

Could the Wii U be the quickest console to go from launch to discontinuation?
Was the Dreamcast even quicker?

3DO and Atari Jaguar spring to mind.

Saturn had over 5 years on market (Nov 1994 - 2000) 9.23m sold

Dreamcast had just over 2 years (Nov 1998 - March 2001) 9.13m sold

I recall that the Quickshot GameBoy-like machine was around for just months. Didn't the n-gage disappear pretty sharpish, too?

Computers used to roll on for years. The 8-bit systems had games published long after the 16-bit computers and consoles arrived, and hardcore fans still code games for them today. I kinda like that and I am wary of today's consoles disappearing a lot faster due to online and update requirements. Most discs now just act as keys to download the required updates, meaning that it'll be a lot tougher to play them in the future.

Edit: The Quickshot Supervision, that was it! It launched in 1992 and just had a couple more games released in '93 before disappearing.

Edit: And, yeah, the N-Gage only retailed from late 2003 through late 2005.

Edit: Oh, and the Sega 32X format, albeit an add-on, ran for just two years as well (1994 to 1996).

PS3/360 were on the market for 7/6 years before their successors launched.

With the mid-gen upgrade, I expect this generation to be just as long.

True. I think that is all the proof we need that Sony is the best.

Clearly the PC is the best. Still yet to be discontinued.

I once used noughts and crosses as a chat-up line. I was on a train and a cute girl was sitting opposite me, and we kept catching eye contact. We both had earphones in, so it was very difficult to think of anything cool enough to say that would be worth making her turn off her music for. So I drew a noughts and crosses grid on a pad of paper, added a cross and pushed it across the table to her.

Two tied games later and we started chatting. Sadly, she had a boyfriend, but she was clearly tempted.

Noughts and crosses: for the #playas.

If you'd pulled out a Switch, things would have been very different.

This was circa 2005 when I was young enough to still carry some sort of sexual currency. I guess I could have dazzled her with my PSP.
