I have 20+ disc based Wii U games which consists mainly of exclusives. Not as much as I own for Wii or GC but its a fair amount i think

I think its also unprecendented that the promise be made to such a dying console. I personally think we'll see NX only Zelda.

Yeah but zelda came out on the gamecube and shenmue 2 was released on the dreamcast, so still likely imo.

Possibly, but we'll see.

Nintendo has issued a statement advising that the production story was not sourced from them... although they have not really contradicted the suggestion.

A Nintendo spokesperson told Japanese site IT Media (translated by, Kotaku) wrote:"This isn't an announcement from our company. From the next quarter and thereafter as well, production [of the Wii U] is scheduled to continue."

As for Zelda... I do now have a slight worry is that, having seen the cheap, half-arsed effort put into Mario Smash Tennis and Animal Crossing amiibo, that kind of thinking could cause business-minded people at the company to say "why release such a huge title for a machine that's on the way out?". It's a tough call. Looking back to Zelda Twilight, wasn't it the case that the GC version was produced in small quantities and gained minimal promotion compared to the Wii version?

While I can see the appeal of making Zelda an NX exclusive I think it'd end up doing Nintendo more harm than good. The Wii Us user base is the core of Nintendo's market and they are in no position to risk alienating their most loyal fans. The NX could be Nintendo's last console if it isn't successful so Nintendo have to take care of those fans, many of whom are already losing patience with the company.

Not saying it is Groundhog day, but wasn't there a similar discussion around the time of the GC to the Wii? Seem to remember once again Zelda was caught between two generations.

Yes?

Seriously I'd be one of those dozen and I'd even seriously consider not buying an NX (for a period of time like a year :shifty: ) just out of spite. They could have Mario Galaxy 3 out day one and I'd be so peed about having to buy a whole new console to play a Zelda that has only recently been reconfirmed to be out in 2016 for the Wii U. We don't even know what the NX is yet. What if it cost £300+ at launch? Some of the supreme select and awesome dozen might not even be able to afford it. What if it doesn't have a second screen after all and its missing useful features that the Wii U version would have? It might not even end up being the superior version.

Really want e3 to hurry up and get here.

I think Zelda on Wii U and NX is an almost certainty. They have already reiterated that it is still coming on Wii U, and it would be really stupid to not use that game as an incentive to purchase the new system.

I hope there is something from EAD at the time of the NX launch window. I have a feeling we will be seeing a 3D Mario title and a game from Retro at that point.

Not long until E3 in June! Can't wait to see what Nintendo have cooked up. There's still a chance that they will attempt to disrupt the industry with something new. I hope they don't go for a more conventional console and input device.

I really hope for Nintendo's sake that the new Zelda is NX-exclusive. It might not be the 'nice' thing to do but it is absolutely the correct business decision.

At this stage I'm not even sure I'd buy an NX for Zelda

Totally not. The correct business decision is probably to release it on both if the NX is out soon. The people who should be there as buyers in the first year are the hardcore, ones who own the Wii U. If you alienate them then they may hold off on the purchase causing it to stumble out of the blocks like the Wii U. A poor start causes the third parties to flee.
Best plan is to launch with Mario NX, Metroid NX and remasters of Zelda, Smash, MK. But this is Nintendo.

I don't see how a dual release would be any worse for Nintendo - if anything they'd get some hardcore fans doubling down and buying both versions (I know I would after missing out on TP GC)

They also left out widescreen support (even though the GC was perfectly capable of widescreen output).

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

There is a lot to like about the Wii U but overall I have been pretty disappointed with the console. I will be especially disappointed if Zelda doesn't get released on Wii U as I essentially impulse bought the system after seeing that first trailer at E3.

The lesson I learned here is to never again buy a game console based on a trailer for a game that doesn't even have a release date.

Spot on, and this doesn't just apply to Nintendo. It's usually daft to buy any console at launch - just wait a year or eighteen months and the console will be cheaper, most bugs will have been ironed out and better games will be available.

But I will ignore that and probably be there Day One for the NX, even if it turns out to have a controller with a single button that you use by connecting it to your eyelid or something. Because I kinda like to support the underdog.

I always find this weird because yes it is true, but if everyone did it there would be no console in 18 months to buy.

You get in this situation where you know it's better to wait but you don't want anyone else to.
