I see you're yet another professionally-offended drama queen from the regressive left. The Wii U has always been the Console of Special Exceptions.

Lighten up, fella, I was obviously being flippant for comic effect -- if Jawa could find it in himself to laugh then you can too. Or at least don't pretend you're upset with me when really you're upset by your abusive love/hate relationship with Nintendo.

Honestly I was a bit upset with your attitude in the Belgium thread and this carried it on. I don't think you should tease that lot as it only feeds them and I don't really want to post in those threads as they're a bit of a shitstorm.
Sorry pal, forgive and forget. Or blow each other up.

C'mon, Trelliz - your point is weakened when you resort to baiting. You're better than that.

Sorry, I was paraphrasing Cal's far-right bullshit from the myriad politics threads, a place where Karl has been unfortunate to fall into.

As for the ending of Wii U production, I am not surprised at all. The complete evaporation of third-party support and the shocking quality of recent games like the new mario tennis and that awful-looking animal crossing boardgame means that it will be gently euthanised and quietly buried. I sold mine after E3 last year when it became clear to me that there was nothing left for it coming. At least the emulator is making solid progress, so might investigate that when it becomes viable.

@Hyperion: I suspected it was to do with that. I'm genuinely sorry that my having a go at the usual suspects in that thread upset you, pal -- I just find it difficult to ignore bigotry. Anyway, this isn't the right thread to have that discussion so I'll leave it there! ;) No hard feelings from me. :)

Nintendo announced the game as a Wii U game and have repeatedly said it is coming to the Wii U. If you look at Nintendos website , they have a video up promoting the fact that the Twilight Princess Amiibo will work on the Wii U version of the next Zelda. Its too late in the day to shitcan the Wii U version to make it an NX exclusive without severely pissing off their existing customers. Considering how weak Nintendos position already is that's the last thing they can afford to do.

The forum has crossed the line of irony and now we're all posting like bitter bigoted whingemuppets, and then whining at others for doing so. It's gotten so bad even jawa is being corrupted and has missed an obvious allusion to Steam in the process. :toot:

Haven't you heard us play on mumble?

It's extremely sweary, though not so abusive.

At this point I'm getting Zelda on whatever it comes out on. If that's NX, so be it. While Wii U has had a disappointing reception I can't fault the games I've played on it which have all been uniformly excellent.

As long as Nintendo continue to make games of the quality of Splatoon, Mario Maker, Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8 and Smash I'll continue to buy their systems.

No in game voice chat due to fear of online swearing? Grow up Nintendo. Here's hoping the NX will be a bit more adult, and yes you can do that whilst still enjoying games like Pokémon, Mario and Zelda.

Sadly, this is pretty much bang on the money.

Hang on a moment...

5 pages of discussion about an unconfirmed usually badly translated report from an anonymous source for a shaky business technology news tip off outlet about a console ceasing manufacture... Which leads to speculation that its likely final major game will be inexplicably cancelled, its online functions shut down, and all its millions of daily active users simply given the gooseberry fool stick because somebody said no-one was buying the same product anymore? What kind of business in their right mind would literally shut off the the entire pipeline of it's flagship product, including customers ready to buy over digital streams? Have you seen how active Nintendo's online presence actually is (multiple regional social media accounts for individual titles like Splatoon for example)? Doing this would be literally suicide. Running a handful of servers to support a paid for product still receiving updates is too expensive for a company still sitting on global assets of billions of dollars?

Can we all just calm down and wait for said game to be released because I really don't see the problem here.

It is indeed speculation, but not really surprising when a news outlet such as Nikkei, the world's largest business and economic daily, runs the story. The reason I mentioned the online shutdown is because we've been down this road before with the Wii, where many online functions were removed and then all online gaming was closed in 2014. If that was done so swiftly for one of the best-selling consoles, I don't think it's too much of a stretch to imagine that they wouldn't think twice about doing the same for a low-selling machine.

Wasn't that largely down to the transition to Nintendo Network and NNIDs? NN seems like it's going to stick around for a while, as it's now being used for mobile apps too, and had plenty of scope for further development. Nintendo had to start from scratch before because there was no way to integrate the Wii's friend code system into NNIDs.

There are 55 pages of speculation about a new console with no real detail. 5 pages of speculation based on a leak which has not been dismissed by Nintendo seems quite reasonable in comparison.

They could have kept the Wii (and DS) services running... like they've managed to keep the Wii Shop (i.e. source of income) service running :-).

I've just been reading up and apparently it has something to do with GameSpy shutting down. Looks like Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection relied on GameSpy servers and infrastructure.

Great find, SEP. It seems amazing that the manufacturer of two of the world's best-selling gaming consoles relied upon a third party to provide the online infrastructure. I guess it's a good thing that the service is now in-house.

If they ever shut down the MK8 servers there will be a riot from GR.

I understand that. I mean the stuff about canning zelda etc when there is nothing to suggest this and in the worst case scenario, if you can even call it that, it gets a cross gen release which has been done last time and not only by Nintendo.
