Nintendo: We Can't Satisfy You And You Enjoy It
--------------------------------------------------------

Nintendo can't win, can it? Put out games to expand their audience, and the core gamers are upset. Put out core games, and core gamers want more.

According to Nintendo's Denise Kaigler, the moment that core gamers are satisfied, players will become disinterested in the company. So Nintendo cannot satisfy gamers, and gamers should enjoy not getting what they want. It's a "fun" relationship.

"I will give you that hardcore gamers have an insatiable appetite for everything Nintendo," she said, "and we love that! We love that. When we get to a point where core gamers say, "OK, Nintendo, enough! We don't need any more games from you guys...." None of us wants to be put in that position, right?

"We don't want your appetite to ever be satisfied, because when we satisfy you, it's time for us to go [dusts off hands], "OK! Let's go on home now!" And none of us wants to go home. So there's this sort of fun...relationship, I think, that's happening between Nintendo and the hardcore gamer — which we enjoy and hope that the core gamer enjoys it."

Sony have finally passed the First Place Mantle of Spouting Bullshit.

The problem with that is that Nintendo don't really make an effort at all any more and a lot of 'core gamers' have recognised that and are no longer interested.

Is this why Nintendo thinks it should focus on other types of games to so-called "hardcore" ones? :o Methinks we need a load of Nintendo/multiformat magazine interviewers to press home to them that this is blatantly not the case! Look at the 360, it has core games springing forth from every orifice and people still lap them up game after game after game, proving Nintendo categorically wrong.

The problem is, everytime Nintendo try and help get out "core" games from themselves or 3rd party comapnies - Way too many people (Rik and Suzz are at the top of this pile) automatically call "we want HD verison on PS3 please" and the games don't sell

Unless it has Mario or Animal Crossings on it, then a core game will flop on the Wii, regardless of hpow core it is; the core target want the Wii to fail, and they've been very open about this sadly

Nintendo don't help themselves to be honest, but they're facing a market that care more about upscalled HD graphics then anything these days so unless they get out something along thoosel ines, they'll struggle with "core" games

Who knew we are all actually playing the new Nintendo game right now?!

Great idea, completely piss off the hardcore gamers and what happens they go onto a forum and completely bitch about our company yet still discuss what 'core' games they want from us. Then we go release to E3, get everyone hyped and then annouce something like Wii music and piss then all off again. The cycle of life

Say what?! I have been a fan of both of the big Nintendo games(Mario and Metroid) and didn't once slag off the visuals.

I have made good argument about having a core game from third parties being sent to die on Wii. Not that I want an HD version of that game but I want to see the game succeed.

She has a very odd looking face, doesn't she? She's clearly a bit mad, anyway.
I think that the core games are there, it's just that nobody wants to buy them, unfortunately. There's plenty there for everybody, casual gamer or not. I think the next big thing for the core is going to be Muramasa, if I've got the name right.
