We do enjoy it, though.

Everybody whips themselves into a frenzy at E3 or whenever Nintendo holds any type of event.

It better not be! It doesn't come out over here until 2010! There is a ton of stuff for the core coming out, but it seems to be across a wider range of genres and is probably more "niche" than the X360 lineup. There also seems to be this perception that if a Wii game gets average reviews of 8 and 7s then it isn't worth buying, while X360 games in that range are "still worth a punt", so most Wii games get shuffled under the carpet and forgot about.

Although to respond to the topic itself. I don't think there is anything actually wrong with what she said, it's the way she said it that was the problem. Hardcore gamers are impossible to satisfy. You'll see people on forums saying "Sequel please!" on the same day some games launch, for instance. We're also a very forward looking bunch and we need announcements to keep us going, as the minute a big name game comes out we consume it and move on. In that sense we're quite easy to control, and Microsoft have the "hype machine" approach to marketing down to a fine art. Nintendo seem to be using the same tactic (announcing and launching close together) to target both markets, while they really should just return to announcing the big games two or three years before they launch to keep "us" hanging around, and then announcing the Wii ____ and other games closer to launch.

Well the NES had 3 Mario games.

And the GameBoy (including GameBoy Color) had 3 Zelda games. But that's stretching it.

The problem with that is that Nintendo don't really make an effort at all any more and a lot of 'core gamers' have recognised that and are no longer interested.

The problem is, everytime Nintendo try and help get out "core" games from themselves or 3rd party comapnies - Way too many people (Rik and Suzz are at the top of this pile) automatically call "we want HD verison on PS3 please" and the games don't sell

Unless it has Mario or Animal Crossings on it, then a core game will flop on the Wii, regardless of hpow core it is; the core target want the Wii to fail, and they've been very open about this sadly

Nintendo don't help themselves to be honest, but they're facing a market that care more about upscalled HD graphics then anything these days so unless they get out something along thoosel ines, they'll struggle with "core" games

The problem is just that Nintendo dont have ENOUGH games to satisfy the core gamer, not that they dont make any at all. They released Twilight Princess, Galaxy, Brawl and Corruption within 18 months of each other. For a company of the quality of Nintendo thats no mean feat, but the hardcore tore into them and a month later demanded more. But their pleas fell on deaf ears because Nintendo knows that for every core gamer who rushes through Metroid there are 10 casual gamers all ready to re-play Wii Fit for 6 months continuously.

Nintendo's gaming revolution will come into fruition when it can satisfy both markets, a feat that no company has yet achieved. Lips was a massive failure for Microsoft and the PS3, which probably has the best balance of games available (Singstar/Eyetoy/Buzz/Killzone/WipEout/Warhawk) is too expensive.

The only games to manage this so far have been NSMB and Phantom Hourglass. Nintendo will be looking at ways to maximise gameplay for the core gamer but make the games easy enough for the casual player to get into. Realise this dream (hopefully E3 will do it) and Sony and Microsoft may as well throw in the towl now.

There you go, it's all my fault

In fairness, there isn't a single Wii topic on this board in the past three years you've done anything other than take a dump in.

Liar.

I suppose it's easier to blame someone on a forum when you're a Nintendo fanboy though ;)

I think Dante was using Suzz and Rik as a general demographic rather than taking a cheapshot.

Don't make me pull every topic about Nintendo out of Search, Rik. I really can't be bothered.

Sure, you're as entitled to your opinion as the next man, BUT WE GET IT already. You don't like the Wii, you don't like Nintendo and you don't like "waggle".

It's funny that Rik doesn't mind doing it, but was getting ever so worked up when HSH would come into his Killzone 2 thread before its release.

Oh, strawberry float, you've done it now. He's going to post that photo of his Wii games.

Do we actually have a list of what games Nintendo are releasing as if they are only going to release for arguments sake 2 or 3 hardcore games this year then they have a point. Also Nintendo have a habit of trying to blur the line between core and casual which can sometimes work but has a habit of backfiring rather badly.

Seriously though, why has this topic descended into Rik bashing?

To try and shy away from the absolute shite that Nintendo have spouted?

Id actually go as far as to say Nintendo have brought back some of the purity of gaming sorely missing from todays titles. Achievements and all they stand for are not a 'high score' replacement but a 'how much time have I wasted doing pointless crap for no reward when I could be playing a new game' feature.

Wii Sports has some insane amounts of longevity in that Space Invaders way: you can replay and replay to beat yourself. This is what fuelled gamers in the beginning, in the arcades. Even now I play it on a weekly basis to try (and fail) at beating my wifes high score on the larger triangle bowling game. I did it once (after 3 hours of trying) and she beat mine again in the space of 10 minutes.

...To be honest, it's not that good a bad quote. There's some serious fucktarded gob-shitery in there, true, but it not even on the same level as "real-time weapon-change" and "giant enemy crabs".

This

When it is Sony spouting crap they all laugh along happily, when it is their beloved Nintendo they need to deflect the criticism. Claiming people like ME don't buy the core games and therefore it is my fault

Don't want to disappoint my critics  As you can see quite a few "Core" Wii games there.

It's funny that Rik doesn't mind doing it, but was getting ever so worked up when HSH would come into his Killzone 2 thread before its release.
