So pleased that Twilight Princess HD is getting a standalone release. Nobody has had anything but that big box with the amiibo available until now.

I, too, prefer the stand-alone version of games to the Special Edition versions because you don't get the massive German rating (USK) logo on the front cover nor multiple languages on the rear cover.

But... the Wolf Link amiibo does look pretty cool. And I say that as someone who has moved away from collecting amiibos.

I just tend to get the ones of my favourite characters, so don't really want that. I have a pre-order for the big box with Amazon at just under £36, so I'm waiting to learn more about this rumoured unlock able dungeon that requires the amiibo before deciding to go with that, or the standard at just under £30 at TGC.

I collect all the Big Box releases, and I have to admit that stupid German ratings logo is annoying - does it have to be so big? Saying that, I simple love the cardboard boxes that those Limited Edition sets come in. I have most of them now (main downside is they're a complete pain to store)!

Yeah, I spotted that my Amazon pre-order had dropped to £36... not bad at at all! I have usually gone digital on recent U titles but I think I'll stick with the disc edition this time.

They do look really smart, AXL. In these days of packaging cut-backs it's nice to see that Nintendo can still put a decent package together (albeit still without a manual :x ). Of course, the Bayonetta First Print Edition is, I feel, the ultimate Wii U special edition :-).

The 2ds has actually been pushed quite a lot especially in Japan so that would be the reason why there aren't more New 3DS games.

Hang on, when did this horror story start doing the rounds?

Amazon in France posted a product description for the game that suggested the Wolf Link amiibo would unlock a "Twilight Cave" dungeon for play. News sites such as USgamer reported this - click here to find out more. Other Zelda-related amiibos are compatible with the game, too, although we don't yet know in what capacity.

I can understand a negative reaction. Although, if I had a choice of paying out for an amiibo-plus-dlc or the now standard season-pass-to-get-dlc, I think I'd prefer the figurine approach. Of course, I'd actually prefer a buy-the-game-and-get-what-you-paid-for approach, but that is fast disappearing.

DLC is a seperate discussion but paying extra to unlock content that's already on the disc through the various schemes publishers use ( pre-order or retailer specific "bonuses", collectors editions, figurine unlocks) is gross in its own special way.

I'm disappointed whenever Nintendo does something like this as they have shown with titles like Pokemon Picross, a free to play game that has an upper limit on how much you can spend, that they can embrace new business models without necessarily screwing over customers.

I agree, bear. It's sad that Nintendo is now doing what most other publishers do.

Personally I prefer to buy, say, a season pass than to "pay as you go". I won't play the mobile-phone-type games where you pay-to-play*.

* Except I've just remembered that I do pay monthly for FF XIV :fp: . And don't play it :fp: :fp: :fp: .

I haven't really checked out any of the Nintendo free to play titles yet. Funnily enough, I watched the Final Bosman yesterday and he was talking about it, in particular, Rusty's Real Deal Baseball.

The way Rusty's Real Deal Baseball does it sounds absolutely hilarious and slightly ingenious. I don't know how I feel about it. Basically the main character in the game guilts you into buying the mini game titles because he's a depressed, broke dog with 5 several kids to feed. I thought that was a really interesting way of hiding these aspects or not being so blatant as to say 'GIVE ME YOUR MONEY'.

I can get behind this stuff if it's not intrusive. Sounds like Pokemon Picross is, from what I keep hearing. Again, I need to check it out.

Amiibo's though, I cannot get behind major content being locked behind that paywall. Give me an option to purchase that DLC for a cheaper price point. I would love the extra Splatoon content, but begrudge paying for the 3 figures.

I didn't find it intrusive at all. And there's nothing to indicate Nintendo won't do this extra dungeon as DLC or unlockable in game in some way. For example in Splatoon you can get all the armour stuff by levelling up and buying it.

I'm not sure about that Splatoon Amiibo DLC being available for all users. I haven't came across some of things people are wearing, like the Samurai costume, the Power armour style clothing, and weapons like the squid agent sniper rifle and roller. I thought those were just restricted to the Amiibo challenge rewards. I could be wrong :slol:

Unless they are past level 40, I just hit that last night

342 Dan.s until Christmas! wrote:If that's true it invalidates Nintendo's previous criticisms of paywalled content and would be extremely disappointing
A few games have already done similar things. The challenges in Splatoon are hidden behind amiibo, and the amiibo boards in Mario Party are also locked away. A weapon is also hidden behind the Link amiibo in Hyrule Warriors.

Based purely on the name, I'd advise a wait-and-see approach. The "Twilight Cave" sounds suspiciously like the "Cave of Ordeals", which was only a set of challenge rooms in the original. It's easy to imagine that the wolf amiibo could unlock a set of "wolf-only" alternative challenges, for example. For those who don't care for amiibo, a set of challenge rooms is at least easier to ignore than an entirely new dungeon.

Although it is a bit cruel, if true, that none of the previous Zelda series amiibo will unlock the content. The idea of them being "cross-game dlc" is largely undermined if they make exclusive ones for each game and put the special content behind only that one.

Actually I think you're right. What I've been unlocking is actually the armour from the single player.

Yeah, it's a bit gooseberry fool but btw Picross is perfectly playable.

Realistically, with NX looming, what are everyones expectations of Wii U going into 2016? So far we know the following exclusive games are headed to retail

Zelda U
Starfox Zero
Mario & Sonic: Olympic game
Pokken Tournament
Zelda: TP HD
SMT x FE

We know Pikmin 4 is being developed and was close to completion as of Q3/Q4 last year so thats a possibility. Can we really expect much else? Can we also expect Nintendo to not release versions of the above on the NX if that is indeed coming this xmas?

Lego Marvel Avengers will be, as a third party release. a bit of a rarity. From my perspective I'd like to pick up Zelda Twilight, Starfox Zero and Zelda U. That's probably about it.

I'd be surprised if Pikmin 4 is released on the U... I think Shiggsy once mentioned it, but did it subsequently get an official announcement? Oh, and what about those two "project" games that Nintendo were working on? Without googling, I can't even remember what they were.

I thought one of the project games were being implemented into Starfox? I'm sure on a release list last year only 1 project game (Giant robot?) was mentioned

I think you're right, magic - Project Guard and Project Giant Robot had gameplay elements that I believe are being incorporated into Starfox Zero. I wonder if there will be a new Direct broadcast soon to update fans on new releases?
