The simple truth is Miiverse was making the game impossible. So many bugs and performance issues were making a tricky job even tougher. We reached out to Nintendo for help and they said "ok chaps." But as further discussions went on it became clear that it would take time for them to deal with the Miiverse issue. So we asked about the Switch and Nintendo said they would love to see our new buddy duo on their new console but they were planning a new and improved super Miiverse. We were concerned that this would still cause issues with the game and sadly early testing indicated this was the case. We again reached out to Nintendo for help and such was their desire to see a bat and a lizard go to war with a bee they decided to end support for the new Miiverse on Switch. Which is why we are going to be able to bring Yooka Laylee to you on Nintendos new shiny mega popular console. Today is appears Nintendo are slowly dealing with the Miiverse issue on Wii U by removing it thus letting the many developers still making many games for the system finish their projects.

So in short. We here at Playtonic killed Miiverse.

This is straight up one of the best posts on GRcade

This post make me feel a bit happier.

Nintendo's path of wanton destruction across the Wii U landscape continues. Yesterday they announced the impending closure of Miiverse and various online gaming functions (including for Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros) and now they've announced that the Splatnet service for Splatoon will close at the end of September.

Little did I know that when I created the picture for the opening post in this thread, Death would actually arrive wearing a Nintendo badge :-( .

I guess sthey want the only online option to be the paid switch service so have tototally strawberry float the U.

Nintendo are banana splits and they really don't give a gooseberry fool about thier users and customers.

The Wii U is such a strawberry floating disaster. I'm considering selling mine but swing how that guy in the trading post can't shift one with loads of great games for not much money, I don't think it's worth it now.

It sounds like that was just a site that is similar to the mobile app for Splatoon 2.
SplatNet allowed Splatoon players to track their stats and weapon usage, as well as see what maps were coming up in the game's stage rotation.
https://www.gamespot.com/articles/splatoons-splatnet-service-for-wii-u-shuts-down-ne/1100-6453005/

Did anyone actually use that? I didn't even know that it existed. While I agree that it's only a matter of time before Wii U multiplayer goes the way of the Wi-Fi Connection*, Splatoon U isn't dying that quickly. For now :shifty:

*This was alive for nine years and supported the Wii for over seven years so Nintendo doesn't really have a precedent for completely killing its online games after only a few years.

I won't be getting rid of my U. Love the system and have a fair number of great games for it... and maybe one or two duffers. Even though I enjoy playing them on the Switch, I shall always think of BotW, Kart 8 and Splatoon as being Wii U games  .

Finally sent my Wii U gamepad away for repair, and it's been dispatched. I hope it survives the trip home :dread:

Looking forward to playing the Specter of Torment Shovel Knight Campaign.

What actually goes wrong with them?

I think one of the internal fastenings has cracked so it creaks but still works fine.

The gooseberry fool battery and weight makes it so easy to trip/pull over/off stuff though.

Didn't survive a house move. The LCD screen was cracked from being thrashed around in a box, everything else was fine. Cost about 40 quid to get it fixed. Sent it to some guy in Larne through eBay, quick turnaround, works great.

Mine also did the creaky thing. Seems to have been fixed whenever the guy replaced the screen.

My Wii U is still nestled in my TV display stand, but not really used anymore. I do not think it is worth selling it for £100 as it has such a good collection of games. I also upgraded my controllers battery to the high capacity one, which gives it a heavier feel.

I would love to get a lot of the titles on the switch, purely to play them anywhere - Mario 3D world is a must, as is Toad's Treasure Trackers and the 2D mario games.

I'm normally not too keen on ports, but there are a lot of games on Wii U that deserved to have more people play them. So I can get behind more things like Mario Kart 8 deluxe.

Same here, in it's 5 years on the market the Wii U only had a handful of games that just didn't justify me purchasing the poor hardware.

I'd love Mario Maker on Switch though, I think the game has legs and is kinda the final evolution of the 2D Mario series.

I'd also buy Mario 3D World and Pikmin 3.

As for Smash Bros and Donkey Kong TF, I'd prefer sequels on Switch developed on UE4 as the graphics haven't ages as well as Mario Kart 8 (which looks gorgeous on both systems).

I sold mine individually through Amazon (bar two games that went to Cora!). Made about £200 (after Amazon fees and postage) on Wii U, 6-7 games and pro controller in total which wasn't too bad-all went towards my Switch.

Guys, if you can avoid it then I'd suggest hanging on to your systems for a while. You're selling at the bottom of the market; we're in the "Switch is amazingly brilliant and Wii U is terrible" common opinion phase* and so the perceived value of Wii U consoles is pretty low right now. In a few years time people will be saying "oh, uh, the Wii U does have some great, unique games but it's getting expensive" and in around a decade gaming collectors will be paying high prices for consoles and Gamepads in good condition.

* "jawa, we've been in that phase since 2012 LOL" etc.

Having the Wii U for 10 more years is like living with a corpse under the floorboards.

Trouble is Jawa the GameCube never recovered in that sense, only the games sell for anything worth the time.

But the Wii U GamePad is probably not going to survive as long as traditional controllers so it may well hold value further down the line, especially the black and Zelda editions.

I've no intention of selling mine. Even if only because it's literally the fastest (and quietest, most power efficient) way of loading Netflix that isn't a horribly slow Smart TV app with a remote control :dread:.

Lol, I love the games available on there, plus I have loads of decent indie titles and I still have some on my wishlist.

It's basically a beta Switch and I'm sure I'll play it for many years. Don't worry jawa, I'm in your camp.

>>> Special Communication for Club Uvians <<<

As you may now know, the online tournament functionality is being switched off for the Wii U's Mario Kart 8 in early November. We are on the home stretch and, here in GRcade, we plan to make the most of of it.

Tonight the regular Monday Kart night is sponsered by a GRcadian who has been "enjoying" Bloodborne... and a particular boss called Bob. This is your chance to join in the karting, indulge in a bit of chat on Discord and, probably, have your evening ruined by an endless stream of bad luck and numerous examples of splittish behaviour.

Click here to find out more in the Wii U Kart thread.
