I know some hated the controls, but I don't mind them and the second screen mostly works. It's one of those rare games where it wouldn't really feel the same without the gamepad.
I haven't tried it out myself yet, Parksey, but the game sure was divisive. I recall that TWA (Matt) played a lot of it and was a bit of a fan!

It remains a criminally underused console, partially due to me (I bought it on a whim in March 2013 and then just ended up playing 360 stuff) and also due to events in my life (moving to Japan in August 2014, and the console not being region free meant it got left behind).
Looking at my Play Log, I've out about 20 hours into 4 or 5 games and that's it. The only title I've played that was released after summer 2014 was Star Fox Zero.
Really feels like an asterix in my Nintendo collection. In some ways, it's the consoles fault - it feels like a relic already, even though it's not really *that* old. It felt like a relic every since the Switch came out, but even during visits back home for a Christmas 2015 and 2016, it felt weird to be playing it.
I'm tempted to go take it with me to my apartment when I return tomorrow, but with the Switch, the PS5 and the Xbox, I think it'll just gather dust in a box again. Not sure what isn't actually available on Switch now, either.
Saying that, my purpose of making this post was actually because I've been playing Star Fox Zero. I'm a sucker for the game anyway due to Lylat Wars, but I can't see why it didn't get better reviews. Breath of the Wild is the same on the WiiU as the Switch.
Such a gem of a machine.
Played through the entire game on Wii U and it really stood out to me how much of the slate stuff must have been removed to make the game suit the Switch, every time Link held it up he was basically holding up a Wii U controller. Id be fascinated to see what the game would have been like if it hadnt been ported to Switch Day 1. Either way the game looks great, runs fine and it really does show the Wii U at its absolute best.

Probably more forced gyro controls for the powers.

Oh I have no doubt it would have been a worse game for it, but it is fascinating none the less.

Hey Wii U fans!

I occasionally listen to the Back Page podcast (it has Matthew Castle! Of NGamer!) and in this recent episode they come up with a Wii U hall of fame. I listened today at work and really enjoyed it, wanted to share with the rest of Club U.
Feeling very nostalgic for the old Wii U now, could really go for a bit of Nintendo Land or Affordable Space Adventures. It's such a nuisance of a machine to set up though, you need charging cables for the gamepad, I think my external harddrive had it's own power supply, and there's setting up the sensor bar for the Wii motes. And after all that, you've got the terrible load times, the best games have all been ported and the online is defunct.
Perhaps I'll leave it in the loft after all.
