So glad it's getting a sequel, certainly one of the best games of last year.

I tried the original recently, after it was made available via PS+, and I must be missing something because it really didn't interest me. It was a very poor imitation of Dark Souls, bloated with too many stats, skill trees and collectables in a failed attempt to make it look deep.

Yeah, I really didn't like it.

I enjoyed the first Nioh for a while but it's just so relentlessly difficult that I got a bit fed up with it and gave up, plus I wasted a lot of currency making incremental improvements to my gear without really understanding how upgrades work. I'd go back to it but I know there is a boss rush coming up soon and I really don't like boss rushes.

I played about an hour of the opening to this when it dropped on PS+ but it didn't really grab me. Just felt like a bad version of Dark Souls.

Might give it a second crack of the whip when there's a gap in my backlog - so probably sometime around 2035

Having recently finished Sekiro with lots of mixed feelings, I'm glad I have Nioh 2 to quench my thirst for what I felt was missing from that game. I played the beta for a bit but didn't want to get too invested. Want to go in as blind as possible. The first Nioh had problems but can't deny how super clean the combat was.

I liked Nioh to a point, but its convoluted upgrade system and that it grows increasingly unbalanced as you progress stopped me from playing it further. If Nioh 2 addressees these issues I might consider it.

Started on this today as I bloody loved the first one.

This is significantly tougher. I'm dying a lot on the first level. But, I'm still enjoying it and will keep at it.

Yup, it's a brutal gem. Difficult, but in a good way, because you actually have different tools at your disposal. I'm trying to finish every mission so I only just hit the next region. Currently in love with the Glaive. Handles really well and lets you keep a distance if you need to.
If item management was your main problem in the first, it's not changed that much here if I'm being honest. But it's up to players how you want to take care of it. You can choose to take what you want, it's not forced on you. There's a lot of systems going in Nioh 2 that you need to stay on top of. I can see that won't be everyones cup of tea.

The comparisons to DS confuse me because outside a few similar mechanics, they're nothing alike. I'd say Nioh is much more action rpg, than something like DS which feels more like an adventure. If you going expecting a captivating world with lore you won't find much, unless Japanese mythology really interests you. Which I do personally love.

First boss defeated. Horse headed idiot he was.

It's brutal but brilliant. I wish they'd have made it a bit easier to start but I'm enjoying it and getting better. The new counter system is very well done and it's just great to be back in the world of Nioh.

Once you get into the groove and have decent gear it's not so bad. I'm still using the Glaive since it's so damn fun. Unlocked stance change modifiers so I can switch between combos and it feels so good. Something that will be much more useful late game when you have more stamina.

Also wanted to say how great it is that we get weapon and armour reskins pretty much from the get go. Considering we're always changing and upgrading it's nice we have that option early.

At the level with the snake boss.... Yeah it's getting tougher. I'm grinding a lot and trying to make a balanced character. Still using dual swords and now unlocked poison to put on them when needed for bigger enemies.

The Snake was my first proper tough spot too, I think it's actually intended to be as a sort of gatekeep for the rest of the game. You really have to nail down counters and ki management in that fight. Also gotta stay on top of those critical attacks when bosses are downed.

I couldn't beat the snake boss ... So I bought PlayStation plus, summoned in 2 players and then we defeated it within a minute. Back to enjoying the game.

Yeah, I personally wasn't super huge on its design. I've summoned once so far but it was for a twilight mission boss which was basically the same fight form an earlier mission.

117 hours into this... I blame the lockdown.

Finished the main game and onto new game plus. Level 225 (max is 300) at the minute and looking for better equipment.

I haven't touched NG+ yet >,>. Taking a break until the DLC comes out probs. Also wish the game had photo mode from the start. Some really cool areas I would of loved to mess around with it.
