PostNo HD F1 game this year

Computer games manufacturer Codemasters has revealed details of its officially licensed multi-format Formula 1 game to AUTOSPORT.

F1 2009 will be released in the autumn for the Nintendo Wii and Sony PSP, while a higher-spec F1 2010, with HD graphics and a more sophisticated gaming mode will be launched next year for the Xbox 360, Sony Playstation 3 and Windows. The new game will be the first to feature world champion Lewis Hamilton, since the Briton had not reached grand prix level when F1's agreement with Sony came to an end in 2006. F1 2009 will use all of this year's cars, teams and tracks - including the Singapore night race, the Valencia Marina Bay circuit and the new Abu Dhabi season finale.

The game will also include KERS, slick tyres and the new aerodynamic regulations. In-depth race simulators are rare on the Wii and the format does not lend itself easily to the concept, but Codemasters is convinced it can deliver promising 'new standards for immersion and authenticity' including a full season, individual arcade-style challenges and a multi-player format. The PSP version will allow wireless multiplayer, while F1 2010 is expected to take full advantage of Xbox and PS3's thriving online gaming communities. "Codemasters has a great heritage when it comes to racing games and their reputation is second to none," said F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone. "We're working very closely together on the upcoming Formula 1 titles and are very impressed with what we have seen. "Formula 1 world championship leader Jenson Button added: "F1 computer games and circuit simulations can be invaluable for racing drivers so it's great news that our fans will also be able to experience the BGP 001 through this game."

2010?

Now I'll have to decide whether to get the inferior Wii version in order to get an indate F1 game or wait out for the 360 version in 2010 which will be outdated but most definitely the better (and most sim-like) copy.

I hope that's PSP, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least if they're Wii. More sub standard Dreamcast level tat.

Rob Smedley, Felipe Massa's race engineer who's become a vocal presence in coverage of the sport over the past few years, has expressed an interest in lending his Northern tones to the game, as have several other notable Formula 1 personnel.

Must.Buy. Although I'll then have the predicament of racing as either Button or Massa.

I love the way people are acting like it's the Wii's fault that HD games take longer to develop.

Those screens are of the WII version as confirmed by Codemasters on their forums. The only good news about the WII and PSP versions is that Sumo Digital are handling them.

The TOCA games they developed were very good.

It shouldn't take this long to design the game. They won the licence early last year didn't they?

To not get a game out during two of the most exciting seasons in years is just stupid. F1 2010 had better be on par with Grand Prix.

What bullshit. I'm starting to wish the licence had never left Sony, we'd have been playing a 2008 game right now if that were the case.

The main problem for me is that this game will be worse than F1 CE.

And it looks like Codemasters' incredible attention to detail seen in GRID has passed on to the F1 2009 tracks. Did FOA not tell them that Sinopec was no longer the Chinese Grand Prix sponsor?

Bar the odd cock up (F1 '98), Sony have always handled the F1 license extremely well. Trust them to give it up when the sport is on the rise again.

It annoyed me that it was Playstation exclusive so it’s better that’s it’s not exclusive anymore. However they really ought to have gotten a version out this year on the Xbox360 at least.

They've had about 2 years to develop this game, a selection of HD racing game engines and its still 2010 :x
Whilst I love Championship Edition it's 3 years old now and I don't see why this is taking so long. As mentioned it better be Grand Prix 2 quality.
I'll probably pick up the PSP version at the end of the year though as I would like to play some F1 on the go.

well those wii screenshots don't make me want to rush out and get a wii for it. I know the wii is underpowered but there no where near as good as GT4 on the ps2.

I may be alone, but I'm glad Sony haven't got the license as:

a) I didn't think their F1 games were all that. They weren't realistic enough and, to be honest, if it weren't for the F1 licensing, I wouldn't have been remotely interested as their overall quality wasn't anywhere near that of Forza/ GT etc.

b) I want to play an F1 game on Xbox LIVE. Thank you.

Well, I rather have a good F1 game next year than a bad one this year.
