Multiplayer was confirmed on Inside Xbox. Big update out on July 24th http://uk.ign.com/articles/2018/05/17/n ... 580c000833

No Man's Sky's fourth major update, NEXT, is launching for free on all platforms, including the new Xbox One version, on July 24. The Xbox One version will launch with the "full multiplayer experience" headed to PC and PlayStation 4 as well.

Director Sean Murray joined the stage at the Inside Xbox event to go over No Man's Sky's new multiplayer and co-op features. According to Murray, players will be able to team up with small or large groups or friends or just come across random travelers in multiplayer, teaming up to survive or attacking other players. Players can build bases together in a shared online universe, partake in aerial dogfighting in space, race vehicles, and even build custom racetracks for friends.

Good news. Still not opened this since nabbing for £6 from Tesco in Jan. By the time I get started this should be a pretty decent game.

Yes?

This sounds horrendous. I hope that these multi-player features are not automatic; I like NMS as an exploration game and I don't want it to be turned into Call of Duty.

Hadn't considered that. Good point, Jawa. That would be a bit gooseberry fool. Engage, trade and team up with other players I've no problem with, but one of the reasons I stopped playing Elite Dangerous outside of private servers is that there was always some asshole in a fully upgraded battle cruiser (and who plays nothing but ED) purposely out hunting small fry to "troll" just for kicks.

Funny isn't it. Multiplayer for NMS has been a hot topic for a while but now it's actually going to happen we're all like "yeah, but it has an offline mode right?"

Wonder if they're going to roll out any further performance improvements for the PC, or if they've just given up entirely.

Just play the PC version, can't get killed by other players if nobody else is playing it.

Bearing in mind I know very little about this game, what else would you team up with other players for? Are there things to kill?

Yes?

Pirates, bounties, sentinels, that sort of thing. You can also raid frigates and the like.

That music definitely gives you a sense of epicness, it reminds me of the brilliant original E3 trailer with the X-wing and the space-brontosauri. Now I hope every person who claimed there was no multiplayer gets killed by other players and has their ship stolen! But I will return to it. But wouldn't this be cool with PSVR support?

At some point I would like to know the story behind the development of NMS. Did Sean Murray always have plans to make this big open-space game but he had to meet a set launch date, or did he feel it was finished and only thought to expand it after the reaction.

As eager as I am to play this, I remain apprehensive about the multi-player aspects. People who haven't really played the game have been shouting for multiplayer but, for me, I'm not sure if it will be a good fit for the gameplay. I'm still excited to walk out into this updated galaxy, though :-).
