The hype for this has faltered for me, really.

There is an EXTREMELY FLIMSY RUMOUR going around that this is going to be a shock release during the Sony PGW conference.

Probably came from someone on Neogaf wanking themselves into a frenzy.

Interesting videos.

I'm still very sceptical about how deep the exploration will really go, as it seems to me like once you've visited 15-20 planets you'll start seeing the same kind of stuff and there will be nothing to really drive you to want to explore forever. I want to see that something really strawberry floating weird is possible, like a planet where everything is oddly geometric with large cubes just floating in the air and the creatures are just spherical balls rolling around the terrain. Or a planet where everything seems dull flat and lifeless but then there's just a massive pillar of rock rising from the surface almost up to space and that's where all the life is.

Murray described the animal generation like character sliders in an MMO and that's pretty much what it looks like which leads me to believe really it's a whole worlds of exploration spread out over a universe rather than anything grander,

Upon the first showing of the game I was hugely excited to see more. Now my level of anticipation is decreasing each time I hear about it. It seems to be that we've seen too much of not very much at all.

Having fears there may not be enough content to satisfy is one thing, but deducing it's all gonna be pretty similar to what we've seen is just being too, too pescimistic. And in this case, the dev has already stated that the closer to the centre of the Universe you get the stranger the worlds, and things that inhabit it, will be.

edit: Regarding things to do, you have to keep in mind this is being made by a very small team. Imo there will be things to occupy us (I mean they've only shown the most basic elements of mining and crafting gear) but going in thinking it's going to have hundreds or thousands of things to do when even huge AAA games, with thousands of people working on them, sometimes fail to offer a tenth of that, is going in with unrealistic expectations of a small team. I think if they offer between 5 and 10 types of "things to do" (backed up by solud controls and engaging gameplay) it will be enough for most people. Well, it should be enough given that's how it is with most other games.

SoK, yeah, I'm not totally down on the game, but it feels like it was announced a bit too early. I may be wrong, but I'm not sure that we know any more about the game now than we did after the first one or two videos.

But... this may not be a bad thing as, too often now, games launch with virtually no surprises. I want this game to be ace and I do love the idea of exploration.

Murray says he wants people to discover content for themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if we never see a more indepth look at crafting than the brief glimpse we got in those IGN videos. As I said before, it's either gonna have stuff to occupy us, other than what's already been spoken of) or the dev will be slaughtered for failing to deliver/lying to potential customers.

The game was announced at Gametrailer's VGX 2013 show which is coming up to nearly TWO YEARS ago! So no matter how good a game is there will be some anticipation-fatigue by the public. But it was originally a small indie game, and still is but probably more ambitious because of Sony money. The biggest worry is that it will be boring, in theory Minecraft is boring. As long as NMS has a world (universe) for players to get lost in and do whatever they want then it might just be a worthy successor. I remain hopeful!

Something I spotted during the conference...

The trailer shown directly before new NMS trailer started began with PS4 first. NMS trailer began with PS4 console exclusive.

47m 57 - NMS

46m - Game before NMS

Rumours of development problems according to Laura K Buzz (Destructoid) -

No Man's Sky was meant to be at a UK event called Game City as a "hands off demo", but they cancelled their appearance, apparently due to technical issues.

Sony's E3 Press Conference demo was not on a PS4. It was running on PC

Considerable issues getting the game to run on PS4

Optimisation on PC has been hell

Lots of technical problems getting the game to run at the scale they want

Basically the end conclusion was just for people to be cautious
