I got it on launch and found enough in there to occupy me with a month's worth of playtime. For £10 you'll potentially be getting that *and* a better performing games with a shedload of new content and features. To saying nothing of forthcoming updates. A tenner for NMS is a bloody bargain.

I played five hours and quite enjoyed it although it made me want to play Elite.

I'm fairly certain that the game is worth £10, I'm not sure though if I can find the necessary time I would need to invest.

Yeah I'm in that space at the moment. I'm trying not to buy games to get my back list down.

So is there any way to mark locations on planets down? If not, it seems like a pretty considerable oversight given the fact this is an exploration game.

Also is there any way to go into 3rd person while flying the ships?

There has been quite a bit of change in NMS since I last picked it up, (base building was the last update I recall), so much so I decided to start the game afresh. I feel the economy and how you upgrade new parts etc is so much more engaging and involved. Acquiring new upgrades now actually feels like real progress as opposed to before where you could be running all the top tier stuff in a matter of days through finding stuff just lying around.

Anyway, really enjoying this again.

Is the central point of the game still to harvest materials to upgrade your capacity to harvest more materials?

Er, yes I guess so, it's just a little more engaging than before.

A new mission to find this alien life form that contacts you was new to me, and being held to ransom by space pirates, for example, has certainly kicked things up a gear. NMS is definitely a lot more rounded and complete these days, but at its core it's still a basic survival, resource gathering game.

Oh, and there is a lot more variety in planets and their environments which does make the experience more interesting.

Just loading up the game for the first time in ages; since last August according to the stats (and I think that was the first time in quite a while, too).

A "Total Play Time" tracker is now shown. Apparently I've played the game for a total of just under sixty hours :o . Okay, time to dive back in...

...Naturally, I have completely forgotten the controls, too :fp:  .

Edit: The mission records are cool now; just click on a mission (primary or secondary) and you're shown what steps you have completed and what is next up.

Edit 2: There is far more guidance on survival, trading, combat and, well, everything else, really. I'm just looking over the Guide/Categories section to remind myself how things work. Great stuff!

Edit 3: Huh?!? Looking through the guides, you can summon your ship to your location?!? I don't think I knew that... in those sixty hours of playing, I've always walked back to my ship rather than summoning it! Will have to check this out :o .

Edit 4: I'd also forgotton how gorgeous the colour is in this game. It's just so lush.

Edit 5: The first planet I have landed on has pretty-much constant toxic storms  .

I have noticed that since building my base and adding a crew that, outside of standard space exploration, the game has become a series of 'go here fetch this/destroy that' quests. Pandering to the angry mob of the internet somewhat?

Should I give Survival mode a real shot? Tried 3 times prior and died each time before reaching my ship.

Have played normal mode and it's a'ight, got bored tho lol

I'm thinking about re-starting my No Man's Sky game. I've put quite a lot of time into it since launch - just over sixty hours - but, after taking quite a long break from it and then returning, I think I want to start afresh.

Is this madness or sensible thinking?

After a lengthy break myself I started NMS afresh after putting in around 40+ hours. Can't say I've regretted it.

All the new stuff sounds cool, but have they reduced resource costs/made it less reliant on constant resource gathering and inventory management? I don't think I can go back to it if, even with all the new stuff, I still have to spend 80% of my time refilling meters rather than just exploring.

Right... I think I'll do the same. Next time I load it up I'll make a fresh start!

Sounds like the NMS reddit not long after launch.

If it'll stop you buying more games you won't play then it can only be a good idea ;)

Just a heads up, you might start on a really shity planet.

I began on a extremely toxic one and so was running around, choking to death, trying to fix my ship before I could take off.
