To be honest, I doubt that *anything* they do will stop some folk griping about the game. I had hoped - and expressed confidence in this very thread - that the game would see lots of further development and it appears that this could well be the case.

I have no doubt that Sean Murray is going to drop a major update. But strawberry float me why wait to surprise everyone with a great update, at least tell people it's being worked on.

considering it was a hack thread title should be changed. :shifty:

The subreddit for this game went nuts because there heard nothing from the company. I don't blame them. Considering the state of the game, the lack of communication was appalling.

Well, they did really, Venom - as I've posted before in this thread, the NMS website contains specific details on what each of the patch updates have done and Hello Games stated that they're working on game enhancements. Unfortunately the rhetoric "Hello Game haven't said anything" has become the perceived truth.

Yeah, I have to admit that the thread title has pi**ed me off for quite some time - I get that the hack was kinda funny, but it's dragged on for ages now.

EDIT: Saint, this isn't really meant to be a dig at you - but maybe it is time to change the header?

Didnt they say it was a hack but then Sean Murray said he posted it? Or something?

Well good for you. I got stuck for a month and waited 3 patches for them to fix my problem.

And I don't need to bang on about all the missing stuff from trailers and interviews.

You don't...because its all ridiculous nonsense.

Same thing applies to all games that get released, plenty of stuff that gets shown during development doesn't make it to the final game in a whole host of games, to single No Man's Sky out or make like its some horrible state of affairs is ridiculous.

And all the multiplayer nonsense is just that, if you (I'm not saying this necessarily applies to you) went into this game expecting to be able to play multiplayer, I don't care where you thought that was mentioned, it was clear that was never what the game was about.

No mate, most games don't show features that don't end up in the game, and if they do, they make it explicitly clear (For Honor dropping split screen support is a big example). When they don't, they are a glitchy mess or they lie, they get called out, see Colonial Marines, Street Fighter 5 or AC Unity for examples. No one is singling out No Man's Sky.

Colonial Marines got stick because it was just bad.

Neither SF5 or Destiny got anywhere near as much idiotic bashing as No Man's Sky has gotten. I'm sure if you look back closely you'll find lots of other big games that cut features previously mentioned.

The problem isn't that people mention there are features they thought were in the game and ended up not being in the game which they are disappointed about, its the ridiculously over the top complaints about the developer 'lying' to them because something missed the final build.

While I agree in general that the reaction to NMS was a bit over the top I will disagree with you on Colonial Marines.

That game suffered from a heavy graphical downgrade which was one of the biggest things people had beef with. The fact it was also shite didn't help matters though.

Okay, can you find me another example where a developer has taken something significant out of the game that they showed in marketing materials without saying anything? And the public not getting mad about it?

Can you be clear about what significant thing was removed from No Man's Sky that had been shown?

It's not really a content patch though.
It's a preparation for a content patch...patch

I don't know that I agree with all of those, but I guess Factions is the clearest thing mentioned that was missing from the final game.

I don't have time to look now, but I'm sure it won't be hard to find a game with something equivalent that was cut that didn't get the kind of stick that No Man's Sky has gotten (won't be hard because I struggle to remember a good game that has got the kind of stick that No Man's Sky has gotten).

Don't agree? There's multiple citations on every point proving them to be fact

Not to mention the list of things they changed (including key features of the game) is massive.

I enjoyed the game, but to try and argue they didn't misrepresent it is just silly.

Its the accusations of particularly malicious misrepresentation that I find hard to swallow.

I don't think there was ever anything they showed that they didn't want to put in the game or that they never intended to put in the game.

Who cares about the intent? That's not what people are at odds with.

They misrepresented the basic systems of the game NUMEROUS times.

People might not have been so angry but some of the stuff they lied about was less than 4 months from launch.

Because by my book they can't have been lying about what they were showing unless they knew that those features weren't going to be in the game.

If they were showing them off and at that point thought they were going to be in the game, then they didn't lie about it.
