Alvin Flummux wrote:That sounds like a good update, but I'm going to need some kind of tracker for creatures that hardly ever appear before I'll feel safe getting back into it again. I'll just wait for one or two more updates before I dive back in.

I went back on last night and the first planet I went to, I found everything in 5 minutes. I got out of the ship and there were animals every strawberry floating where. To be fair, fauna was detailed as plenty but that was ridiculous. Also interesting was the fact it was a planet I'd previously been to but the change in the universe made it go from barren to abundant.

Also, where has the ?????? animal list gone? It was quite handy to work out what animal you were missing.

Is the other thread going to be relabelled as a discussion thread at some point?

In case people get salty?

I think you've misjudged this one Denster and you're coming across as a bit of a div.

I'm unaffected by the games release, but there's no doubt that this whole release has been the gaming story of the year.

I think people should be allowed to discuss it how they want. I certainly want to hear what people think, because I find the backlash really interesting and kinda justified. Looking at the E3 reveal now, it's honestly worse than those famous Killzone 'bullshots'.

Just to be clear, critical posts about the game are still welcome here, it's just that the Hello Games lied discussion was cropping up far too often, and so I felt it was about time it got its own thread.

Ok.

My mate will start asking for his copy back once the new content hits. Shame. As i had the best of both worlds. 34 quid cash and still playing it.
Oh well.

Denster, if you have £19.75 available then you could have a (new) copy delivered...

:x Not very happy that I have to restart my game for survival mode. Why should I be penalized for playing pre-patch and why can't I just continue from where I left off in the new mode?

Survival is a bitch. Started me off on an extremely hostile planet and I can't get to my ship - how do I restart my game?

I really like the sound of this update, and it bodes well for the future. The freighter seems like a more worthwhile investment than base building, given the lack of navigation backwards after warp jumps. Construction mode might be more my thing. I didn't enjoy the resource gathering or survival elements of this before, but if it'll let me start building, farming, etc, it might become a lot more interesting.

Anyone with the PC version still playing? Have they sorted out the dodgy framerates and general performance issues, as well?

Sounds like they're making it a bit more minecrafty.

Played for another forty minutes and there are so many changes.

The game seems to be a lot tougher... there are way more carnivorous and predatory creatures that attack - on one planet I had endless four-metre tall carnivorous blobs after me! Space battles are tougher, too - and some things need a different means of charging up i.e. the ship boost now needs iron rather than thamium, whilst my gun needs thamium.

I also docked on a freighter for the first time! Seems cool but it was gonna cost 7m credits to buy  .

All good stuff but it's gonna take me a while to get my head around everything.

Played about an hour of the update - so much better and populated with stuff to (see about longevity though). Few things done in my short time,

- Saved a Frieghter from pirates, docked and spoke to Captain, antimatter reward 8-)
- Space a lot more populated with ships, very tricky battles with Sentinel ships
- Came across a habitable base so claimed it as my own, built few rooms, corridors and recruited a Builder at a space station. Can teleport from these back to your base.
- Came across 3 new elements
- Quick select for refuelling is a god send
- Photo mode, no HUD, finally. Can be such an awesome looking game.

Can't wait to recruit more chaps and get a bigger base etc!

The only problem I have with the new update was how far I had to walk to talk to the freighter captain. I understand that these ships are big but is there really any point wandering through featureless corridors? Other than that, nice update with lots of interesting new stuff.

This is what I thought we would be getting originally to be fair. Still Minecraft was and still is about £7.99 isn't it? Just goes to show really how this was mismanaged all around. If they had released it as a budget title with the announcement that this stuff would be patched later on, then I think a lot of the harsh sentiment would have dissipated quickly.

I'll definitely be giving this new patch a try tonight. I just hope it actually has a modicum of depth to it

From today's Eurogamer article:

Some planets are entirely uninhabited, the odd feeling in the original version of coming across the same settlements on each surface ironed out as buildings are now more sparse. It makes for a tougher, lonelier game, even away from the all-new survival mode - resources are now more scarce and have to be sought out on different planets rather than all being clustered together

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-11-29-no-mans-sky-foundation-update

Sounds better and more unforgiving, but I'm guessing that the key elements needed to lift-off from planets will still be common on ALL planets, otherwise the potential for being hopelessly stranded on a desolate planet with no other outposts would be a real possibility?

Survival is TOUGH. I had to restart several times and, when I eventually got off my ludicrously toxic starter planet (and skipped the second one which looked even harsher after a brief atmospheric entry), I immediately got shot down by pirates (I could have been better prepared, but damnit I was running on empty!) and stuck again on the third planet.

The problem seems to be that life support gradually decreases regardless of toxicity, temperature or hazard protection, and can only be replenished with Thalium 9 or
energy packs - neither of which, like everything else in this mode, are particularly abundant.

Back to normal mode for me...

I imagine you can still hunt for resources amid the asteroids surrounding most worlds, if you have the juice to take off.

Aren't the energy packs made using carbon? I'm intrigued by survival mode, can you have a normal game save and a survival one at the same time?

Yes, they are separate saves. You need the blue print before you can construct anything though, and survival starts you from scratch... so no energy packs :-(

Edit - survival was great fun though - puts an entirely new twist on the game, and you can transfer everything to your ship before you die. Sure I'll give it another go soon.

Can you customize your ship yet? Color schemes, modular parts that change the thing's appearance etc would add a great new dimension to the game.
