Falsey, WoW is amazing if you get a good group of players to play with, well, at a high skill level anyway and people you actually like. Being in a good guild, where you get on with everyone is fantastic!

The problem I have with mmo's is that you need to sink in way too much time into them before you get a decent character with anything like half decent items. Even then you can be screwed over by grief players who have monster characters who just pick on lower level characters and end up with all the best stuff.
Some way needs to be found to have level progression but without soul destroying grinding through the same dungeons time and again or mining for cash.

You could say that about any multiplayer game though.

I agree but then it becomes counter productive to the aim of a MMO. Which is for it to last as long as possible so you keep paying every month. Im sure a company could come up with a more "fun" or faster way to progress but im sure it would be a shorter experience and thus less potential earnings. I suppose you could argue having a more fun MMO would appeal to a larger audience so theres more money there but its big risk.

I suppose the nearest thing to your idea would be an online subscription to call of duty. People would be playing not to level up (well they would be but i dont think it would be primary aim) but to just enjoy the gameplay. And even then alot of people on here and other places dont think a MMO call of duty would succeed and if COD cant do it then i dont think anything can.

I think when people say MMO they immediately think of things that don't really have to have anything to do with the concept of being an MMO.

All it really means is that its an online game that caters for lots of people to be a world together.

Obviously an action oriented game has issues with lots of people being placed together and still being able to function as an action game...that doesn't mean there isn't a way to make it work.

If this is what Bungie are doing, it'll be interesting to see what they come up with.

I think it could be quite cool. It would have to work a bit like Deus Ex with light RPG elements but I would be excited about a FPS RPG game not sure if I would want bungee to make it but hey could be good.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

I'm not sure if this was just that the game I played was so utterly gooseberry fool (Mir 2) but it just ended up feeling like a job getting more money and XP and I already had a job I hated so having another was tipping me into a suicidal tailspin and I had to stop playing.

Ive played a shitload of WoW, years worth of subscription time. I still wouldnt say it was anything more than addictive. Anyway, Im not trying to derail this into a wow-hate thread so that'll be all I say.

Personally, I think WoW is awesome, and I don't find it addictive. I've put in a total of around 70 hours in over a year. I've gone months without touching it too.

Bungie trademarks “Osiris,” “New Monarchy,” “Seven Seraphs,”

Now sort-of-retired internet snooper superannuation has found new trademarks filed by Bungie which may point towards the name of its new IP.

The developer trademarked “Osiris“, “New Monarchy“, “Seven Seraphs” and “Dead Orbit” to the USCO last year.

It’s also trademarked internet domains for the names above.

Bungie announced last April it was entering into a ten-year publishing deal with Activision over its first new IP since Halo.

According to comments made by Acti COO Thomas Tippl at E3 last year, the new IP looks likely to make its debut bow at this year’s event in Los Angeles.

Whenever the reveal takes place, its reveal will be “incredible,” said Activision studio boss Dave Stohl.

That's a bit of a shock.
Having his name linked will certainly add interest to the project.

Seems like an odd choice.
