Post/noclip - community funded videogame documentaries

So the notorious DOD's Youtube pet project has finally launched. This is the only Patreon I donate to. If you don't know Danny he did The Point on GameSpot and was about the only reason to use that site before he left (oh well). High production values and great insight from the Irishman living in America as always.

Here it is

The Story of Rocket League (Part 1) - How To Build a Rocket

Part 2 is tomorrow

I instantly backed his Patreon when it launched because I knew he'd deliver something good. Great first doc, eager to see what number two will be.

I liked his bits on The Point when he did that, so I'm glad to see he's back, but I'm not fussed enough about Rocket League to sit through 50 minutes of video about it. Any idea what other things he'll be covering in the future?

Awesome, will definitely be watching this when I get time. Probably my favourite game of this generation.

Thanks for sharing :toot:

Noclip is just documentaries but he does other stuff here: https://www.youtube.com/user/dannyodwyer/videos

A Tournament of Lies is well worth watching.

Yeah it is. How he's getting that access considering another thing their publisher has been in the news for is baffling, but great.

Rocket League and the next one were right up at the top of the games I wanted to see him cover. Good job Danny.

"Can't say what the next game he's covering is going to be but it sounds interesting!"

Guessing it's Doom going by his Twitter.

He'll announce later today I think, but it's an id title. Not many options there!

I liked this, but despite being 50 minutes long and enjoyable enough, there really wasn't that much there about the development of Rocket League itself. The history of Supersonic Acrobatic... er, the game with the long name was interesting, and the stuff about RL's launch and the reaction to launch was good, but it was rather content light about the nuts and bolts of how the game was made. The bits that were there (a discussion of the design of the curved walls in the corners, for example) were very interesting, but we didn't get to know about why decisions were made about physics, game rules, vehicle designs... all that stuff was very surface.

A fine first effort from Danny, but room for improvement, methinks.

Keep misreading the title as Danny Dyer. #propanawty
