Eurogamer rated it well, but a couple of lines made me wary from a sheer time investment perspective after going through Origins earlier this year:

Eurogamer wrote:This is easily an experience of The Witcher 3 proportions, and while I can sympathise with someone who wants to see Odyssey's main family storyline wrapped up in 20 hours, this is simply not that kind of game. To put it in perspective, you'll be two-thirds of the way through the main storyline before you open up the beginning of Odyssey's third big narrative focus. This was for me (with a minimal amount of side-questing) around 40 hours in.

Eurogamer wrote:Where Origins had a few dozen targets to chase down, most of whom tied to main quests, Odyssey has 40-odd, their identities hidden behind clues found in missions strewn across the game's world.

I dunno, Trelliz... personally I think it's hard to view a game offering too much content as being a drawback, especially in these days of stuff often being held back as payable DLC.

I suppose my problem is with the type of 'content' that Origins had - a handful of doing the same things over and over again with vast tracts of empty space in between. I'm glad that apparently the first civilisation storyline is coming back to some degree, but I'm absolutely not in any rush for more AC for the foreseeable future, which is something I never thought I'd say.

If you watch the review I posted above the guy reviewing it seemed to really enjoy the side quests and didn't mind the way they were set.
I'm going to get this and I have a feeling I'm going to really enjoy it as Origins was excellent.

Nice reviews, I’ll get when I finish Origins which could be some time...

Yeah I don’t see it having loads of content as a bad thing. As long as it’s good content and not too repetitive (which AC games are very guilty of!).

I'm getting the Gold download edition. You get the game, two bonus missions and the season pass, which includes 6 extra episodes plus ACIII Remastered and AC Liberation Remastered. I'm one of the few who really liked ACIII, so it's a good deal for me. It's £69.99 on CDKeys - £10 cheaper than elsewhere.

I've preordered AC: Odyssey as I really love the Greek setting so getting it on XBX for the best graphics. This is a single player game that potentially is going to be supported for 2 years and if it's a game that works for you that's a great thing.

Tempted to get it at launch but I might just wait till Black Friday like I did last year with Origins.

I watched the IGN review - the game looks lovely and great fun, but bugger me it's too big! No way would I have even 10% of the free time needed to see everything. What's the point in making these gargantuan worlds, if most people don't get to experience it all?

A couple of othe folk have said the game is "too big"... but I don't get how that is being called out as a "bad thing", really! Sure, if there is a ton of bloat then maybe it is too big, but - by most accounts - the gameplay remains decent throughout. In these days of publishers putting out small campaigns or even no campaigns, I don't get that a huge, single-player focused adventure could be a problem. If it's fun and it takes time to complete... well, that sounds like value for money.

Considering just how few games i buy each year, a nice big game world that'll keep me occupied for a couple of months is just what i need.

Oh don't get me wrong, I know that came across as complaining, but it's more from a first-world-problem perspective. The trouble I often find is that I'll plug loads of hours into a massive open world game, not get close to completing it, and then the next shiny thing gets released which catches my eye and off I go, leaving an unfinished behemoth to gather dust.

Yeah, I recognise that behaviour, Preezy... for the past few years I've flitted around games and rarely stuck with one through to completion. I'm trying to change that now, though :-).

I also kid myself that I'm trying to change, but looking at my current gaming library it's not happening :slol:

Dynamic 4k

XB1X's lowest dynamic resolution is higher than the PS4 Pro's highest dynamic resolution.

PS4 Pro max: 2816x1584
PS4 Pro min: 2227x1242
PS4 Pro Average: 2560x1440

XB1X max: 3840x2160 (native 4k)
XB1X min: 2944x1656
XB1X average: 3072x1728

XB1X a 76% increase in output pixels vs PS4 Pro in opening battle, 44% on average.
XB1X has better draw distances and shadows.
XB1X has improved Ambient Occlusion

Framerate is a fairly solid 30fps on both Xbox One X and PS4 Pro, but can be inconsistent.

Everyone seems really positive on this. The best thing about it is that despite being very similar to Origins it sounds like it's very much it's own thing.
