What happened to them not making this an annual series anymore? That lasted long.

We won't make this annual.

Next instalment sells well.

TWICE A YEAR

Origins did extremely well critically and commercially. This is presumably just reusing the Origins engine but set in Greece.

I'm okay with that as Origins is arguably the best AC game ever made.

Last one I played was Syndicate, which I loved immensely. Still interested in the franchise.

Y’all are part of the problem. Stop buying these awful, truly awful identikit shithouse games.

Well, when you stop buying games I don't like I'll stop buying AC.

AC Origins is definitely not a "shithole game". You may not like it, but it got pretty widespread critical acclaim. Hell, even when the AC games were annual, they still got good-to-decent reviews. Syndicate, the last annual game, got respectable scores and while there were some issues (noticeably Unity being rushed and buggy) by and large the annual plan gave us AC 2, Brotherhood and Black Flag. All three are great games. Even when AC was a bit of letdown it was still okay.

They are so many gooseberry fool games out there, it seems odd to get so angry at something like AC.

I really do enjoy the series, only one I'm yet to play is Origins (I've played most but not completed Syndicate) and I've heard it's meant to be good but I'm yet to get round t starting it. Only thing I've disliked about the recent games is how much of a collectathon they've become, is Origins the same?

Greece should be a decent setting, have they said if we'll be taking on the role of a Spartan or not? From the looks of that keyring it looks like we could be.

Last one I played properly was Black Flag, which was genuinely fantastic. But mainly for the pirate stuff. After that I was done with the series completely. I did play a bit of Syndicate, but only because somebody gave me a free copy, and it was so dull and boring.

I don't think there is a problem of quality, the next game is likely to be an asset flip and will probably play well. The problem is more to do with fatigue and that in 12 months this will probably have the same shitty writing.

If they would take a bit more time and hired some decent writing staff, they could make something really great. As it is it will likely be another really good game that you can just switch your brain off and check off lists.

I still haven't played Origins, but might bump it up the backlog queue - I'm a staunch defender of the series (except the film which was ultra-garbage) and think the modern day stuff tying it all together is important and interesting, however I am acutely aware I'm in the minority. The only thing that annoys me is that the massive cliffhanger Syndicate ends on which had been building up from the very start of the series is resolved in a strawberry floating graphic novel, so I guess i'll be picking the collected volumes up at some point.

The Ancient Greek setting sounds great, one of the most interesting possible settings for the series. I'll definitely play it at some point.

I'm hugely behind on the AC series though (despite owning loads of them), finished 2 last week so I might get to this one by 2025

Origins is superb (almost finished the main story) but I've a feeling Greece will feel too familiar to soon. I've quite had my fill of sun, sand, sea and palm trees.

We have wildly different understandings of the term "really good game".

Only ever played Brotherhood and it didn't convince me to invest in the series beyond that. The title of this one doesn't sound right to me either.

Not surprised. In my opinion, it is the second worst AC game (just slightly better than the original AC). It was jam packed with busy work and a repetitious setting.

Try Origins, Black Flag or Syndicate.

It's also the middle of the 3-game Ezio story, so possibly not the best jumping-on point.

:D I know... many find the Ezio games to be great but I prefer everything that game after AC --> AC: Revelations.
