I was already pissed by the time this started. Let me put it this way...the beer goggles did nothing.

Oh dear.

Sandi Toksvig, food writer Prue Leith and comedian Noel Fielding will join Paul Hollywood when The Great British Bake Off returns in the autumn.

Channel 4 announced the show's new line-up ahead of its first series since leaving the BBC.

"I could not be more delighted by who will be joining me on the show," said Hollywood, the only holdover from the BBC's version.

Leith said she was "so thrilled to be joining... the biggest show on TV".

"I cannot wait to see what the real stars of the show - the bakers - are going to create for us," the restaurateur and novelist went on

The comedy stylings of Toksvig and Fielding. :dread:

Simon Amstell destroying his entire act will always be the first thing I think of when I hear his name.

I'm shocked that after spending so much money channel 4 have gone with 3 terrible presenters. Considering the talent out there it's crazy.

I won't be watching, shame as I've followed the show since it started. Hopefully the BBC, will launch something with Mary, Mel and Sue at the same time and destroy it.

Moss from the IT Crowd, Peter Kay, Scarlet, or anyone on TV would have been better.

At least it wasn't Jo Brand.

Wish my image sig would work

Not sure I get the hate to be honest. Prue Leith is a perfect Mary Berry replacement, probably the best they could have gone with. Toksvig is fine, perhaps a little dry for something as lighthearted as Bake Off but should give a bit of respite from Fielding who can occasionally grate. He has his moments though, and is often entertaining on those 'Quiz Of The Year' type shows.

Certainly could have been much worse. Take this, for example.

Odd choice of clip given that Fielding is the one who lands the killer blow.

Enjoyed Fielding in the early Boosh stuff but he's been pretty weak since, can't see him working well on this at all. Mel and Sue rode the line between laughing with the contestants and laughing at them, they joked around but it was clear they cared about the baker's and wanted them to do well and impress Mary and Paul. Fielding will just spend the time thinking up silly things to say and hoping someone does something he can use.

Toksvig is possibly one of the most annoying human beings to walk the Earth, she possesses the capability to suck the enjoyment out of even the best programming.

Personally I can see nothing but disaster in this.

I like Toksvig, and she'll be a very good fit for this.

Fielding is a very odd choice, given his tendency to do whatever it takes to make himself the centre of attention. Maybe he'll tone that down for this show, but I'm sceptical.

They should have got Matt Berry to be one of the comic-relief presenters.

Very very odd choices - but in some respects they're going "different" rather than trying to directly copy what came before.

The BBC2 replacement The Big Family Cooking Showdown is going down very well on social media. Watching it now and I think C4 are screwed.

It's basically Masterchef crossed with GBBO.

The Daily Mail can make anything into an outrage.
I seriously think they could twist a 3 year old's birthday party into an Al Qaeda terrorist cell planning meeting if they tried or that Crufts is actually is actually just a scam by communists.

The new series of Great British Bake Off averaged 6.5 million viewers across Channel 4 (5.8) and Channel 4 +1 (0.7) and a 30.4% share of the TV watching audience.

This is a drop of almost four million compared to the previous series premiere on BBC1 which was watched live by 10.4 million. Once catch-up is factored in across 7 days, that number rose to 13,580,000.

Jay Hunt, Channel 4's Chief Creative Officer, has previously stated they needed to attract at least 3 million viewers per episode to break even on their £75 million investment.
