As I understand it this is for creative professionals and not gaming.

My old Amiga 500 could do ray tracing.

For now, the cheapest version will be $2,300

16TFLOPS is out of reach for PS5/XBTwo, maybe hypothetical mid-gen upgrades could come close though in 2023/2024.

Are they releasing their new gaming ones this year?

That article is old.

Looks like the new high end gaming card will be the RTX 2080 and include the Ray Tracing technology, should be shown off on Monday next week.

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digi ... s-rtx-2080

Can't remember where I read it but there's some speculation that Nvidia will split its lineup with a couple of the top cards branded RTX and including the new ray tracing technology and the rest of the lineup sticking with GTX and not having it included.

I set my A600 away to do a ray trace once. Simple model, like a ball or something. It took literally hours, and I'd cocked up the lighting settings so when it finished I just had a black screen. I never tried again.

It might have taken a long time, but if something is worth doing it's worth doing well.

The current state of rendering in video games is all smoke and mirrors; this year's cool algorithm stacked on top of all the previous ones. It's a dead end really.

Not sure how you could easily scale a traditional graphics-engine to a ray-traced engine though.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

This is fantastic and new but when will this filter down to anything but the most hardcore high end PC power gamer?
Does anyone here have a PC with a £1k+ Graphics card?

This will maybe, just maybe be something the PS6 can do so while it looks cool it's like them announcing Elder Scrolls 6 now and knowing it's not going to be available to buy for 4 years if we're lucky which is just frustrating.

I also used to make 'fly-by' animations using Vista. 8-)

It's what all the cool 15-year-olds were doing at the time.

Amiga FTW! Still got my A1200 knocking around somewhere I think. :toot:

I'm glad the green team are finally getting around to announcing some new hardware, my 970 is just getting to the point where I would consider an upgrade but I was waiting to see what was coming next!

The gaming cards with this technology built in are unlikely to be over £1000 in price and they are going to be available this year.

Don't get me wrong, they'll still be expensive, I guess we won't know exactly how expensive till next week, but I'd imagine if you've got £500 to spend on a graphics card this year you might well be able to get this technology very soon.

Respect! I must clarify that whilst my Amiga was capable of it, I didn't actually try it myself. Although I did play around a bit with Deluxe Paint. But I remember reading so much articles about it in magazines and seeing the pics from the video Octoroc posted, so I think it should still count me being party of the ARTC.

But whilst i'm not a PC gamer I'd love to know what the new Nvidia graphic's card is capable of (4K 60fps with epic settings?) as it could of course have repercussions on the next-gen of consoles.

Ridiculously overpriced in the UK again.

RTX 2070 in the US - $499. Which is £390. Add on VAT of 20% and you've got £468.

So how much are they here? £569.

And the early adopter gouge starts.
