PostOdd (But Innocent!) Habits - Got Any?
by Jenuall » Thu Aug 16, 2018 4:47 pm

Just had someone at work comment on the fact that whenever I finish a packet of crisps I fold the empty packet up into a triangle. Which I then proceed to fiddle/play with for the rest of the day - spinning it on the desk, sticking it on the end of a finger and using it to type on my keyboard etc. This is something I've been doing for years and never really think about, it's just second nature, but I guess it could look a bit odd to some.

This got me wondering if there are other things like this I do, and there are loads - I click my fingers and neck fairly routinely throughout the day, I've got a weird little thing where I sort of click/pop the big toe on my right foot regularly etc.

So now I'm thinking that if I have a bunch of these things then surely it's only natural to ask what other innocent little habits and behaviours my fellow GRcadians may have in their lockers!

So come on people, share any quirky but harmless habits you have - this is a safe place, free from judgement ... within reason :slol:

I click my fingers and neck all the time, it must be pretty gross to watch and listen to, but I care not.

That's about it.

I haven't done it in a while (because I haven't seen any in ages, not even the classics) but I'd randomly think back on funny Simpsons moments and just chuckle to myself. I'd sometimes get odd glances in my direction, or friends would ask what's up but I'd make something up instead of telling them I pictured a baby bear clamped around Homer's hand, etc.

I chew on my tongue. I make it fat and then just kinda gently chew.

I click my fingers, right arm (The left doesn't click), my back, knees and toes (i have to slip my shoes off to do so of course).

I also fold my ears up when I'm tired, which is a lot, and forget I've done it until someone sees my inside out ear and asks what the strawberry float is going on.

If I'm singing along to a song when I'm with the dog (playing Rock Band or just listening to music or whatever), I'll sometimes find myself inserting his name into the lyrics just to see how he'll react. So instead of "I Need My Girl" by The National, "I need my Loki." Obviously I try to put the word into a part of the song with the correct amount of syllables though so that's a gooseberry fool example.

Inevitably he either doesn't care, or just stares at me as if to say "You are a strawberry floating weirdo."

I absentmindedly click my big right toe sometimes, normally when I'm just sat in thought at home. It sounds like someone walking over stones more than a click, it's definitely more of a crunch.

That's sounds like what I do! Glad I'm not the only one!

Same here, in fact I regularly have full on conversations with Ada, she tends to treat pretty much everything I say with disdain!

Also when I out her to bed at night I usually say "Night Pooch" which leads my brain to this:

So I then have to finish the sentence by saying ", the crime solving pooch!" :slol:

I can see this being a thing I do with Loki going forward.

I chew on the skin around my fingernails. It's a pretty bad habit actually, they can get sore and broken sometimes.

I probably have a bunch of weird habits but I'm struggling to think of them.

You can fold your ears so that they stay inside out? How does this work? I can't picture it.

+1 for singing and/or talking to my cat. It's probably worse doing it with a cat as they don't know/react to their own name like a dog does

I pull my hair out. I pluck hair off my head, pull on my eyebrows until hair comes off or constantly stroke my beard and pull hairs out (if I have one). I don’t really notice how much I do it until someone looks at me or mentions it or until I shave when I have nothing to stroke.

When my beard grows out for a few weeks I have this nit comb I constantly comb it with and pull on it. I use this comb because it’s very fine and I like the way it scratches. Again I don’t really notice how odd it is until I stick it in there and leave it like an Afro comb..

Also when I’m alone (and sometimes when I’m not) I’ll make noises or clap or something quite loud.
