That district is insane. It looks like The Jetsons.

Shanghai really is turning into Bladerunner's LA, there's a list of other supertall projects going on over at http://www.skyscrapercity.com and one can only dream of what it'll look like in another decade.

I'd love to visit one day, it's like a cross between Tokyo and New York.

I went to Hong Kong a few years ago, before I really got into cyberpunk. Would love to go back now and check it out some more. I love going to big cities wandering around, checking out the different districts, architecture and whatever else. Need to check out Tokyo and Shanghai at some point.

Hong Kong has another great skyline, especially since the commerce centre was built. A good mix of futurism and urban decay, Ghost in the Shell captured it pretty well.

Thought I'd post some pics of my journey up The Shard. The views were cool as, they also have these cool electronic viewfinders that tell you what you are looking at. Staff are a bit stupid though, one punter asked what height the viewing floor was. The guy had no idea. Being a geek I had already done my research and told him it was 245m. Then the guy said "The total height is 1016 metres" :fp:  I corrected him again "I think you meant feet, not metres. I should get a job here."

They really do milk the whole "experience" though. Plus the ticket prices are strawberry floating extortionate. Haven't prebooked your ticket or bought in advance, that'll be £100 per person please

It is dirty in places, but mainly it's because this:

is the colour of the sky for 85% of the year here, so consequently everything looks bleak, depressing and shitty.

I'm doing my dissertation on the "changing face of London". I've looked at historical development, the massive Docklands redevelopment on the Isle of Dogs, and another section I want to look at the impact of Skyscrapers.

Now I personally love the Gherkin, and The Shard is a very attractive building. I am also aware that these aren't for everyone, and London has always had this beautiful and historic skyline. So out of curiosity I was wondering what peoples thoughts are on this "new" skyline that London is starting to create. Do you like the idea of London getting more skyscrapers? Do you think it will continue? Would you prefer to keep the city with a historical look or are you more interested in London being like say...New York and getting built higher and higher?

I have to say the new "cheesegrater" and "walkie talkie" look strawberry floating grotesque in the Skyline.

I think the walkie talkie is awesome.

I'm a bit annoyed more attention isn't being made by the media about the London Gateway development as it opens fairly soon and will create thousands of jobs.

Cheers, Jam.

The walkie talkie looked a bit odd in the concepts but I wasn't against it. But now when heading towards London from the south of the River and seeing the skyline un reality it really looks out if place in my opinion. Perhaps if it had other buildings around it it wouldn't look as peculiar. But on its own it looks very strange. Compared to other city skyscraper I think it's very poorly designed. Especially when near the gherkin and opposite the shard.

Good news for Liverpool as the waterfront is getting a huge regeneration.

Manchester is also getting a huge scheme as well.

Liverpool's waterfront is going to get one hell of an Americanization!

Does look a bit like a mini Manhatten skyline, but I like it.

I do too, but I reckon it's going to look rather out of place unless more of the city can have a similar revival, without any listed or otherwise significant buildings being lost in the process of course.
