Release date = UK 12th September 2008 RRP £19.99 USA 16th September 2008

Adapt. Engage. Dominate!

Take on the fight as the volatile Sergeant “Psycho” Sykes in a new parallel story taking place during the events of Crysis. Psycho’s secret mission will take him to the other side of the island on a ruthless pursuit of a North Korean general hell-bent on obtaining powerful technology. With the versatile powers of his Nanosuit and an arsenal of fully customizable weapons & vehicles at his disposal, Sykes will do whatever it takes to carry out his top-secret objective.

Action on the other side of the island is more intense, the battles are fierce, and the mission protocol is no longer “Adapt to Survive”. As Sergeant Sykes, now you must adapt to dominate the battle. Twin SMG’s blazing, seizing new vehicles, or going stealth, the action and the victory is on your terms.

Pulse-racing new installment from 2007’s PC Game of the Year*: Play as Sergeant Sykes and experience a whole new side of the battle. * More explosive and dynamic minute to minute game play: new customizable weapons, new vehicles, new photorealistic locations to explore, and a fully interactive war zone to dominate.
* Enhanced human and alien AI: Intelligent enemies, bigger challenges, and all-new ally squad support.
* Includes Crysis Wars®, an expanded new multiplayer experience with new online modes and 21 maps including seven all-new maps to battle it out against other players.

Crysis Wars Will Be Included In Crysis Warhead

As part of the major announcement today that Crysis Warhead is scheduled to ship to retailers on September 16th, EA™ and Crytek® officially unveiled the new multiplayer game, Crysis Wars(R). The game will ship as part of the Crysis Warhead® package. It features numerous improvements over the original Crysis multiplayer including a whole new mode, TeamInstantAction, as well as 7 new maps. All the original maps from Crysis are available as well as all of the new weapons from Crysis Warhead. The team at Crytek has been working on Crysis Wars for a while now and will have a dedicated support team to meet the needs of the community. More news on that later...

For those of you who are looking for more info about Crysis Wars®, here are some of the features that weren't discussed in the press-release. We'll have more news on Crysis Wars® as well as special updates directly from the team as we get closer to September 18th:
• TeamInstantAction is a new team-based mode pitting Raptor Squad forces against KPA forces, all clad with Nanosuits. It features a intelligent Spawn System which ensures you will always spawn the furthest away from any enemy and closest to your teammates. Its also a very easy mode to jump in and out of. TIA is really for fast and intense multiplayer fun.
• Many of the new maps have been specifically tailored to create vertical gameplay, meaning you can use every ounce of your Nanosuit's powers to dominate your opponents. Stake out a high ledge to jump out of the line of bullets or use your cloak to sneak past the enemy on the prowl. Every map in Crysis Wars has been carefully crafted to create a fun and unique multiplayer experience
• 21 maps including 7 never-before-seen maps. All the original Crysis InstantAction maps have been improved and re-worked.
• New and improved HUD elements make for an informative and enjoyable experience. Get your kill count up on your opponent to rub in how many times you owned him. Lots of polish has gone into this aspect of the game.

As I stated, that's just the start. We'll have more news on some of the new things you'll be able to do in Crysis Wars® in the coming weeks!

So anyone else looking forward to this? Apparently they have really optimised the engine and it runs really well. It doesn't rely on DX10 for the maximum effects and details either, which makes me wonder about the whole DX10 thing in the first place. I loved the original and early reports suggest that this could be the better game. Please tell me i'm not alone in looking forward to this.

review scores

Total PC Gaming = 9/10
"Niggling issues have been addressed. Warhead is a beautiful shooter that's finally available to the masses."
PC Zone = 92% "Warhead honestly is the finest burst of action gaming this year."
IGN = 9.4 "I found Warhead to be challenging, exciting, wild, and, yes, very much full of swagger and fury."
Eurogamer = 9/10 "this is a game which really cares about the environments it offers up."
1up = B+ "Warhead's a clear demonstration that Crytek learned its lessons from Crysis."
Gamespot = 9.0 "It's more focused, it's more intense, and though it doesn't provide as much of the sandbox feel as Crysis veterans would wish for, it still delivers on every other front. Play this game.

Yeah I can only really play Crysis well on high settings and that's with Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700, 2x 512MB XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog Edition graphic cards in SLI and 4Gb Ram. It looks lovely but it really is poorly optimized. Warhead apparently fixes that problem and runs over 20% better than the original game.

Next Month? Sweet can't wait for that to come out, although I hope you can now do some of the things they promised you'd originally be able to do. Like be walking over frozen water then have the aliens shoot that out from under you etc.

I'm running a measly (compared to yours) 8800GT, AMD 6000+x2 and 1GB of RAM and I can run it well on high.

Yeah I watched an interview where they said they were optmising the the engine to look good on a machine for £400 or something.

Funny the new feature of not requiring DX10 for full effects... because all you had to do was edit a configuration file value or two to get all the supposed DX10-only effects running on XP with DX9.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

:D Sounding good.

And BLH, bit late, but the aliens have been overhauled so they're not just killing machines anymore. The use cover, call for help, flank etc, the main problem with them in the first game was that you couldn't use the tactics you has used against KPA against them.

I thought Crysis was amazing, put games like CoD4 (linear and rubbish single player) to shame.

Oh god knows! Officially it was actually supposed to be out in europe this Friday (12th) and the USA on the 16th, but it's all gone a bit quiet.
Edit
Got an e-mail from game saying the game is delayed until the 19th. No news on the official site though.

it did say 26th on both GAME and play about a week ago, but they both now say 19th.

Really looking forward to this game, loved the first one. Im on a Q6600, 4GB ram, 8800GT 512mb, XP home. I was able to run the original at 1680 x 1050 on high, with a constant smooth frame rate. Hoping i can have it on very high at 1920 x 1200 this time.

ive got it preordered at play for 14.99, and im hoping theyre going to be nice and get it to me on release tho it doesnt say it will - do they do that for all games?

Still stuck on the original games final boss, but I'll have it nailed by the end of the week I'm sure. Played it almost solidly for the last 3 days and it really is an incredibly good game. One of the best FPS games ever made, elements of farcry (obviously), halo 3 and cod 4 all spring to mind but in a far more open, detailed and immersive world.

Can't wait for this, the fact crytek have optimized their engine slightly more means i may even get better FR's and resolutions at higher settings then i can with crysis currently.

My only reservation would be the game appears to be selling itself as an all-out action movie blockbuster affair. That's fair enough, though the original crysis excelled for being so subtle with its approach. The game was truly brilliant at letting you decide if you wanted to be all guns blazing or mix it up with stealth and speed. Hopefully, despite the macho explosions and the 'Jason stratham' approach to combat doesn't negate the finer subtleties of the crysis experience.

By all accounts Warhead is a far better paced game, while actually giving you more choice and being less constricting than the original. Not the other way around.
