PostOfficial Formula One and General Motorsport Thread for 2024!
by Robbo-92 » Tue Jan 02, 2024 11:10 am

Hello once again everyone, to the 2024 version of the general motorsport thread :toot:

As I previously posted in the 2023 thread, I'm not going to do a summary for the 2023 season, it was a Red Bull whitewash barring a sprint race and then a Grand Prix, Verstappen's worst finish was 5th :dread: Perez was nowhere, Ferrari and Mercedes were nowhere for most of the season, just a dire season of F1 really :(

I think the little highlights from 2023 were Piastri looking like the best rookie maybe since Verstappen, alongside McLaren's strong second half of the year, Williams and Albon being much improved compared to 2022 and lastly Alonso's/Aston Martins strong start to the year.

How's everyone spending the off season? Playing some racing games? Or trying your hand at managing an F1 team in F1 Manager? Personally I keep dipping back into ACC, recently fallen back in love with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car from 2021, a brilliant car to try and tame, even if I fail often  Like with last years, I'll take nominations for a thread title again as well.

Predictions

  • McLaren to finish in the top three in Constructors Championship
  • Max to win the Drivers Championship
  • Ferrari team strategy to be directly responsible for blowing at least THREE victories
  • Norris to take his maiden victory
  • Logan Sargeant won't see the season out

I'd love Aston and McLaren/Norris to get a win or two, just can't see anyone other than Red Bull winning the bulk of the races again, they've had nearly all of 2023 to work on their 2024 car...... They brought one decent sized update in Hungary I believe? Then a couple of rear wing tweaks for some tracks towards the end of the year.

I can fully see Ferrari messing up once again though

Bottas has been Kick-ed to the rear of the grid with that engine penalty.

*engine fails*

Well that's one stake I think Valtteri Bottas would prefer NOT to have well done Martin Brundle.

The older cars look tiny, even at Monaco.

Finished episode 3 of the Brawn GP documentary earlier, Brawn/Fry/their legal team pulled a blinder with the contract with Bernie didn't they? Button really did seem to struggle mentally since Silverstone as well, felt like that was the turning point in the season and since then it was damage control and hope for the best.

Finished the Brawn GP documentary, almost refreshing (in a way) to see how much pressure Button was putting himself under when the car performance had fallen off, he knew it was his best chance to finally get the WDC but it just didn’t seem to be going his way at all, a lot of the WDC drivers look so under control nearly all the time, but behind the scenes it’s anything but, of course easier to be under control when you have the fastest car.

Even though it’d mean a lot more of Horner on the screens, I’d love to see a similar season for Red Bull’s 2010 season, still seems ridiculous that Vettel never even led the championship till the one moment it mattered.

Guenther Steiner has apparently acrimoniously left Haas and already been removed from the team's website.
