Have you seen how many things you could use that for? It's a fantastic idea for gaming!

Oh wait, for someone who plays consoles I guess and not PC games, I guess you don't understand the cool uses for it. Like a strategic map in the likes of Ghost Recon for planning mode, overview maps for any kind of planning in any kind of game would be awesome. Also you can hide all the ugly UI stuff on the controller and have a lovely clean screen on your TV. Inventory screens, pause menus, web browser even!

Let's not even forget how cool Video Conferencing will be and it's for a microphone so that's a headset already sorted!

Uno, Chess, Monopoly, Risk; any card or board game would be great on this system.

I do play PC games. I dont look at the controller much, I think it could be awkward shifting between two screens? Those features would be good, but they are sort of like gimmicks. Like the kinnect stuff microsoft is doing.
As for everyones hopes for much hardcore games, I would be VERY superised if Sony aand Microsoft did nothing and said "Heres some of our market share xoxo."

Has anyone pointed out what an utter banana split this is going to be for battery life??

You're going to be charging this bastard every couple of hours, unless the whole volume of it is taken up as a battery

Im glad you agree with me, I remember how annoying it was when I first got a controller and had to look down to find the buttons.

Edit: battery is a good point. But they must be doing something.

Do you find it difficult to look at your speedo when driving? It'll be a similar thing, you're not going to have to keep focus on both screens at once, so an occassional glance down at it will probably be enough.

Although "every couple of hours" is probably a massive exaggeration, I'm sure there's no reason you can't still use it while charging.

I wouldn't say its a massive exageration really. Look at the 3DS, and compare the screen real estate with the WIIU's controller, the new controller has a larger surface are, which means a bigger backlight, along with the processing demands of lagless streaming and rendering. Its not that far off to think it might need a charge every couple of hours of play.

Plus, who wants to play with a controller while it's charging? i hated doing that with my ps3 (although mostly because of the 4cm long usb cable).

Wii U can sod off, I waited this entire generation for the Wii to prove itself but instead I only got a few games I genuinely want to play. I was a hardcore Nintendo fanboy once, I spent a lot of money on Nintendo. Well, I suppose if this new market ever dries up they know where to find me. Until then I'm firmly in MS and Sony's camp for the next gen.

Oh, yeah, the battery life of that controller is going to be horrendous. The Wiimote drinks batteries and that thing as the same sensor tech plus all sorts of touch screen malarky.

Wait - Nintendo announce a console that does everything you want, with strong third-party support, and now you choose to abandon them?

You're an idiot.

You're an idiot.

He wanted power and didn't get it.

Are you seriously saying you're not disappointed the way the graphics are on par or even less then the 360/ps3?

I know Nintendo is all about cutting cost but they are taking the piss. It is a cool tech but they could have wowed all of us by improving on the tech inside the machine.

Meh.

Still buying

All we know about the power is that it is at least sufficient to play games released during the second half of the first HD console generation; games that push the 360 hard and take greater advantage of the PS3's hardware.

Besides, we all know that the power gap between this system and the next PS/XBox won't be as large as it was between the Wii and the PS360, so the situation with the Wii can't repeat itself.

They've even said it's slightly more powerful than the 360 and on par with the PS3. What on earth are people talking about, do people not read? I've said this before and I'll say it again. Sony/Microsoft will NOT be releasing a console in the next few years. For one, to have the tech it'd be too expensive and push console prices too high and the other thing is both of them have only just released their motion controls which they need to push for a good few years.

I must admit the one Wii U controller thing per console is massively dissappointing - but I've always wanted to controller with a proper screen in it to use for inventory/footy subs etc - I just didn't imagine the screen being quite so large. I am certainly intrigued at the possibilities, but those possibilities seem to create limitations as well. I really wanna see the games!
