DISCLAIMER: There is a very small possibility that any of these applications could result in a semi-brick or a full brick. I accept no responsibility for any damage done to your Wii. Piracy Talk is NOT allowed.

The Wii homebrew scene has been kicking off over the past 6 months or so, so I thought it would be a good idea to give people an idea of what you can do with your Wii without modding it

The Twilight Hack: This is the only way you can install homebrew onto the Wii. For more info and instructions: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Twilight_Hack

The Homebrew Channel:: This basically acts as a Twilight Hack but instead of having to go into Twilight Princess to boot homebrew, it's simply a channel on the Wii channel page. You put multiple Wii homebrew apps on an SD card and you can boot whichever one you like. Essential to the homebrew experience: http://hbc.hackmii.com/

Emulators

SNES9X 1.5 004: http://snes9x-gx.googlecode.com/files/Snes9xGX-004.rar. This is a very well presented Snes emulator and is pretty much compatible with any game.

SCUMMVM: http://static.hackmii.com/scummvm-wii-r33789.zip. A Fantastic conversion of the emulator on PC so you can play all the classic Lucas Arts point and clicks with the Wiimote.

FCE Ultra Wii: http://code.google.com/p/fceugc/downloads/list. Nes Emulator

Genesis Plus: http://code.google.com/p/genplus-gx/downloads/list. Megadrive emulator

VBA: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Image:VBA_1.7.2.zip. Gameboy Advance Emulator

Homebrew Games

I haven't had any experience with these but a full list can be found: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/List_of_homebrew_applications_(games). There are some custom Guitar Hero games featuring new songs etc.

Useful Apps

GeckoOS: http://www.usbgecko.com/GOS16d.zip. Can boot Wii games from another region. It works in the latest update unlike the Freeloader.

DragonMediaPlayer: http://www.dragonminded.com/files/dmp_0_16_alpha.zip. It's also possible to play DVDs with it: http://hackmii.com/2008/08/libdi-and-the-dvdx-installer/

Save Extractor: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Image:Savegame-Extractor_v2.0.zip. Useful for backing up saves from Super Smash Bros and other games which do not allow it.

Savegame Installer: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Image:Savegame-Installer_v2.0.zip

More info on these apps and others can be found: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Homebrew_applications

If someone could tell me the code for highlighting text with a URL, that would be useful. If someone could create a banner, that would be great too. Thank you!

Is there any kind of hack that will let me play my US cube games?

Yes, there is. But I haven't tried these as it is too risky (could result in a bricking):

In fairness, so could the Freeloader hypothetically, so I don't think it's any better or worse than the existing solution.

Are you referring to the Wii version? It will not play all GC games.

Starfall will allow you to play US GC games. I had that exact problem, but the latest version allows it. Just beware that it does change your NAND settings, so if something happens when it's doing it's thing (i.e. a power cut or something) it might bust stuff up. The Menuloader released by Team Twizzer supposedly does the same thing, but doesn't permanently change your NAND, but in practice, it doesn't do GC games properly.

I've used Starfall, and it's been absolutely grand though, so don't let me put you off.
