Apart from the big sister fights, I loved 2 and don't understand why it's not rated.

Minerva's Den was better than the main game imo

Stared minerva's den last night, just got to gaining the electricity plasmid. It really is great, so good to be in rapture again.

Only niggle I have is the movement speed of the character makes combat clunky and unnecessarily tough, to the point I had to put the difficulty back to normal as a little sister harvest was almost impossible.

Infinite has entered the Grind stage so might start Minerva's Den over the weekend.

The only bad thing about infinite was the halo regenerating shield and the bizarre tower defence type final battle. I loved it personally.

Played some more minervas den last night, it's so good I forgot it's DLC, as it's already clearly heading towards the end game. I also forgot about the big sisters, so I had one of those show up after a harvest, and then a roaming big daddy got caught up in the fight so I had him to fight too, on top of fighting the sister and having just done the harvest defence.

Forgot how much I liked the bee swarm power, I feel like a reverse jawa.

Opening Hour of Infinite is amazing, i did find the ending amazing also I must admit.

It has a terrible middle bit but at least it tried something different, think about the other FPS's that came out the same year...

Played some mo Infinite and enjoyed some of the gun fights.

One thing I must say tho and that this game is Gorgeous, jaw dropping. X1 version is same as PC but yeah stunning.

It's not the same, might be a port of the PC code but it's dialed back in effects and can't maintain 60fps.

Infinite was great. It's the only 'AAA' game I know of that has built a narrative referencing several well known theories from pop science.

My point was a nod to it being a port of an older PC game but still miles better than 360. The sheer opulence of everything stands out in the higher resolution.

I'm with you Photek. While the game is flawed, I did enjoy how the team tried to do something different especially compared to a lot of modern shooters/AAA games. Loved the ending too.

I played the remastered collection recently and Infinite hasn't aged particularly well, at all. The whole thing is just so...confused. It doesn't know what it really wants to be, or what it really wants to say. Perhaps it tries to say too much, so that it's themes are watered-down.

Finished it last night, the end is still a bit of a sh*tfest but at least on X1 it didn't slow down to a crall (too much). Xbox 360 version was crippling at that part. I'd rate the game as a 9/10. The majority of the combat is actually good and its all looks so gorgeous.

Minerva's Den next (never played it).

Pop science references do not a good game make. It also managed to strawberry float up the Many Worlds theory in its denouement, which then made no sense at all. Don't forget the mangled message on racism and abandoned commentary on religion too. It was an unholy mess of ideas and rhetoric that went nowhere and meant nothing.

Gameplay wise it was somehow worse than BioShock 2 (which was only ever a good shooter when compared to the janky mechanics of BioShock 1) with rubbish weapons, samey enemies and little to no effective use of the much hyped rail system. To cap it all off, it actually managed to make the original Bioshock worse by shoehorning Ken Levine waifu Elizabeth into the backstory.

Gash.

The narrative is messy at points, especially the vox populi but it was all too gorgeous for that to impact the game.

I've finished all 3 now and the one that stands the test of time is easily Bioshock 2. It has the best combat of all 3 and the remaster is rapture at its best, beating Infinites DLC and Bioshock 1. Best looking of the lot though is Infinite, I didn't enjoy the game much first time back in the day, and only finished it once but playing it again now, yeah, I actually love it, all 3 games are to me straight up classics and I can't think of another trilogy of games that comes close.

I can't tell if it was the improved resolution or smoother frame rate but having just finished it the only points that hurt it is the fight with Lady Comstock and the ending, some of the other parts had poor gunfight sections but overall it broke up the barrage of fighting with story snippets and lovely little things Elizabeth would do or say. My first recollection was that this was going to be a slog but it wasn't that bad at all. I'd reccomend a replay for all those people who hated it, I still say we should celebrate the game for what it was trying to do and I honestly never spent so much time just looking around in amazement at the scenery as I did with Infinite, I'll play all 3 again in 4K on Scorpio to see if they look even better again.

Narrative: Bioshock 1
Gameplay: Bioshock 2
Wassailing pretension: Bioshock Infinite.

It's been so long that I can't remember enough about the specifics to make a compelling argument. I do remember thinking how great it was using science rather than someone being killed or an alien invasion as a premise, there was a really cool bit in a museum and the ending getting me with the feels.

I had a real problem with the museum. They presented you with these horribly racist caricatured representations of Chinese and Native American people...for no reason. There was no commentary there, it was just "Weren't old timey people so un-PC!" Then to top it off the villain of that setpiece, a colonel whose one defining feature was his massacring of Native Americans, is given a denouement which absolves him of all moral judgement and in fact paints him as something of an anti-hero. The messages that game sent out were incredibly messy.
