It's well known that Destiny is basically the start of a run of really quite decent titles that will take us through to next summer.

That's good then :>

The Last of Us Remastered is of course a PS3 remaster - but for the many who have never played it before it is a new game. It's a triple-A calibre title, for Sony it's effectively having the draw of an exclusive. It has been dominating the all-format sales charts in the UK and US. And Eurogamer have written a piece that says Destiny is in many ways (like) a first-party exclusive for Sony.

Other than that the only big PS4 exclusive has been inFamous and the only big XBO exclusive has been Titanfall. Not a lot - but it's only been 9 months and the great exclusives will start flowing next year.

Of course one could be coming at this from the viewpoint that the exclusives on one console are better than on another. Eg Forza 2 Horizon is better than Drive Club, or Kinect Fantasia is better than Little Big Planet 3, however it's pointless arguing like that because taste is of course a matter individual preference.

It's exclusives that help define the uniquen qualities of a console and bring it to the forefront of gamers minds and make it attractive to buyers. Ironically I think No Man's Sky, a small indie game by a micro-studio, is having a big impact on drawing mindshare to PlayStation 4.

I would say Destiny is important in other ways and I can see why Sony were keen to advertise it well for the PS4 - it is the developer of the most popular Xbox franchise and I would think a very successful outing on the PS4 over the XBO could show potential XBO owners that it is OK to move across to the PS4 as all their friends will be coming.

Yes?

I predict at least 2:1 sales, based on naught but a finger in the air.

In my opinion, tweaking and changing the One UI was absolutely necessary as a matter of urgency, it's a state in comparison to the PS4.

The media updates on X1 are a eons ahead of PS4 at the mo tho.

I think anyone who was interested in games bought a PS4.

I don't care about media updates.

We will get better exclusives next year and even more in 2016, but the superior multiplatform versions will also win the day too.

PlayStations have the longest legs of all consoles, expect to see FIFA 2022 on PS3.

And, unlike the Wii where sales dropped off a cliff after 4 years, expect to see PS4 selling 10 years into it's lifespan, especially in places like Brazil.

According to Eurogamer and Sony's UK head Fergal Gara:

Destiny launches at an important time for both the PS4 and Xbox One. In January 2014 Gara revealed that the sales ratio of PS4 to Xbox One in the UK was 1.5:1, and eight months later this remains the case. That means that if the PS4 has sold 1m units, then the Xbox One has shifted 666,666.

The ratio marks a significant shift compared to the last generation of consoles. In the UK, the Xbox 360 outsold the PlayStation 3 by a ratio of around 1.5:1. Clearly, Sony has won market share from its competitor - and then some.

According to NeoGAF, this means that thus far in 2014, the Xbone has been averaging ~8,400 units per week in the UK vs the PS4 moving ~12,700 units per week on average. In other words, the PS4 is the new 360, in terms of UK sales, and Microsoft has a tonne of work to do.
