We have confirmed with multiple sources that this new home system is capable of running games at HD resolutions. There are conflicting reports, however, as to whether its graphics will be comparable to those on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 – meaning it could surpass or fall short of those systems. Either way it will offer competitive specifications. Moving to HD should greatly help Nintendo and its new console in getting more multi-platform triple-A titles like Portal 2 or Mortal Kombat. This, in turn, will strengthen Nintendo's historically poor relationship with third-party publishers/developers.

In fact, Nintendo is already showing publishers the system in an effort to get them interested and allow them plenty of time to start developing titles in anticipation of the system's reported late 2012 launch. This advance support marks a change from when the Wii launched. At that time, several Western publishers were outright surprised by the announcement, and it affected the software support for the platform.

Rumoured E3 reveal for a later 2012 launch Image

If true, it's surprising they'd announce something so soon after the 3DS launch.

Yoshinori Ono "confirms" that could be presented a new desktop system from Nintendo.

Thus, players could be facing one of the possible bombing that Nintendo would have prepared for the E3 in Los Angeles, the arrival of Wii 2 could be imminent.

All this information has come through the words of one of the people most is betting on Nintendo 3DS, Yoshinori Ono, Capcom and developer already has a review of Super Street Fighter IV on Nintendo 3DS.

It is well known for their support in the handheld, has confirmed that Super Street Fighter IV will have connectivity to a video game system, but can not confirm until three months, coinciding with the E3 in Los Angeles. They suggest two things very interesting in his words, the first that the games could be patched and updated to offer new content and the aforementioned Wii 2 could be presented at the Nintendo press conference.

Or he could be suggesting the 3DS game will link to other home console versions.

It wouldn't surprise me to have a megaton new console announcement at E3. Wii is basically dead, in the Gamecube phase of just waiting for Zelda.

Nintendo can see sales falling constantly worlwide and know that both MS and Sony are in the profit making stage of this generation and wouldn't want the costs of console launches now or this year.

It makes sense to me that the next Nntendo console will release in the next 18 months.

It would certainly explain why we seem to be getting fewer first-party games for the Wii this year. We have Zelda, and that's about it.

Have Nintendo ever allowed a portable to hook up with a competitors machine?

A Wii version of SSFIV perhaps?

This late in the day? Wouldn't make any sense. A SSFIVAE for Wii2/360/PS3 would make a little more sense.

Wii 2 now would really piss on Sony and Microsoft's parade as far as Move and Kinect are concerned.

Yep. If they use tech that from 2005/2006 they could get a cheap but powerful machine out which could prove better value than those on the market already.

They needed a new home system more than a new handheld to be honest. They also need to embrace third parties in the same way they have on 3DS for a new home system.

I'm just worried that Nintendo will skimp on the system grunt and it may only be slightly more powerful than the almost 6 year old 360. Maybe I'm just old fashioned but I don't see the point if that's the case as the systems USP of movement control has been copied by others. I'm not asking for bleeding edge but the new system will need enough extra power to make it worth upgrading.

Why would they use tech from 2006 in a machine that will presumably be on sale until at least 2017? If they do go down that route then I'm out as I like new machines to be slightly newer than that.

If this turns out to be true Suzz then hah, I said the Wii 2 was going to be Nintendo's big announcement this E3 and you shot me down.

It probably won't though.

It could be done over the internet at a neutral website. Think like Criterion's websites recently or EA's stats pages for sports games and Battlefield.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Nintendo aren't really about "grunt" at the moment, but I'd be surprised if the new one was only as powerful as the 360. If they do announce it now (well, at E3), it'll be like a 360 and a half, or something.

I just hope they keep the backwards compatibility, and add in some kind of upscaling thing. 720p Skyward Sword looks lush

I think Nintendo have just abandoned the Wii to third party shovel ware for the most part. This always happens when they bring out new hardware, this time they are focusing their efforts on 3DS.

I dunno, the 3DS is quite a powerful little machine. Nintendo are about grunt as long as they can make it small, efficient and relatively cheap to manufacture.

An E3 announcement for a 2012 release?

I'd like to see non-blocky HD graphics & proper online gaming. i.e. a user name, easy multiplayer gaming and conversation and maybe an achievements system.

For the love of god, no acheivements. They're rarely implemented well, and they can lead to achievement whores ruining online games. Playing games should be its own reward.
