I suspect my personal opinion on this is a bit of an outlier, but I don't actually know. Therefore stupid Friday poll.

If I somehow had the choice between two uncomfortable temperatures outside (and I knew I had to spend a considerable amount of time outside) I would definitely choose the cold option. I can always move my body to raise my body temperature, but if just standing outside in the sun (or shade) causes me to start sweating then I am going to be miserable because there's little I can do.

I think that'll be the popular option. Hate it when it's sweltering all the time.

As long as it's not raining and I don't need a coat/jumper, then I'm happy.

I prefer the cold (especially when we get those sunny yet frosty days in the winter), at least i can deal with that for the most part by putting on my gloves/scarf/bobble hat.

If it’s cold, you can put more clothes on. There’s a limit to the amount you can take off when it’s hot.

Yeah, very hot spells are my least favourite of the year. There's just no way to really counter it.

A sunny 21C day with a refreshing breeze in the evening is lovely. 28C and swelteringly humid day & night is awful.

I prefer the cold by a wide margin. My heat tolerance is very low, even temperatures in the high teens start to feel uncomfortable for me. My options for cooling off are limited or at least have been in the past, working in a building where everyone moaned about the aircon in the summer. My options are basically staying in with the fans on, stockpiling chilled water, freezing hotwater bottles for the night and hoping it will end soon.

I don't tend to feel the cold anywhere near as much and can only really think of one time where I've felt too cold outside (on a mountain in Japan in the winter, at night, windchill played a factor). If I start to feel chilly I can just layer up and more often than not I end up layering down after a while. I don't think I even wore my winter coat very much last year.

At that point I'm basically writing off the whole day. It's frustrating and I wish I had a higher temperature tolerance because there are places I'd like to visit where I know the heat will be just too much for me. I was in Taiwan in the spring a few years ago and the heat and the humidity were just too much for me.

Cold weather really disagrees with my disability, I have very limited movement in my hands at the best of times, cold weather reduces that to zero movement.

If I need to think I prefer the cold, if I need to dig I prefer the heat.

One thing i will say though, is that i can tolerate high temps a lot better if i can go back to an air conditioned room afterwards (as happens when i'm staying in a hotel somewhere).

That way i only have to cope with it in small doses and that's why i always try and book a hotel with air con if i can (last summer i was in london for a couple of days and the temp was 34c, but then i went to my air conditioned hotel room and it was absolute heaven).

I don't get on with hot or cold temperatures. My body is terrible at dealing with conditions over, say, 24C (I sweat and overheat so easily) although my hands and feet are pretty much continually cold throughout the winter, too.

I've been the same since I was a kid, though; it's not just as I've got older!

I don't really feel the cold at all on account of being, you know, fairly wide. Conversely, even a little heat is really very uncomfortable.

Hmm, I think my outlier opinion might instead be what exactly counts as too warm. If I'm spending time outside (which I do regularly because of my job) then 14°C is about the upper limit for me. Anything higher than that falls within the uncomfortably warm zone. I can tolerate it, but I'd much rather not.

and if you take too much off the sun hits your skin more so you end up hotter anyway.

Yeah, there’s definitely a psychological aspect to it. Looking at the forecast and seeing how many more days of heat we’ll have to endure is probably doing us no favours.

I'm not actually far off that. Around 14°C I'm OK. It's hot, definitely tshirt weather but I can mostly cope. Crank it up to around 17 and above and I start to get uncomfortable.

I'm absolutely terrible in hot temperatures. Anything normally over 25° makes me feel horrid. It always makes me sluggish too. Cold temperatures I'm fine with, you can always bundle up in cold weather to keep warm.
