So, completed my placement matches, won 5 lost 5. Starting SR is 1738, so silver.

I don't know if that's good or awful.

EDIT; Aaaaaages finished the night on 1650. Multiple teams full of Bastions when we were attacking and Hanzos who wandered off on their own to die. Hmm

That's fewer placement match wins than I got, yet a higher SR than I got.
I don't understand how the Placement matches work at all.

Then again in my last set of placement matches I only one 1 and I think someone mentioned something about the last seasons placement affecting this season.

You are supposed to average out at 50% wins if your elo is accurate. Even as you are being placed it is matching you against people around your skill. Therfore you could lose them all technically and still place higher than silver or whatever.

You may have had 7 game wins in placements, but you personally might have been dogshit compared to those around you.

Yeah, the placement matches tend to skew towards where you finished last season. They don't seem to mean that much anymore. The ranking system ain't the best anyway, with the stats counting being a bugbear of the community (With good reason.)

Taf, silver's fine for a start. Aside from the Bastions and Hanzos, how'd you find stepping into comp?

It was occasionally great, but uniquely frustrating. I've never played a team based game like this before, so it's incredibly annoying when you have a team that isn't working. One team I ended up in started bickering from the start due to poor picks, and everyone set out on their own. I was playing Mercy, and as everyone was so spread out it was incredibly difficult for me to reach anyone before they were singled out and killed. Didn't stop the constant "need healing" calls though, or ranting when I didn't make it.

I had a few teams that were fantastic though, good communication and picks, good pushes and just good players. When it works, it feels great.

EDIT: This morning, 4 games 3 losses. Last game we had a Pharah who never left the ground and refused to change. I haven't been this angry at a game in years. I genuinely think I'm pretty decent but it feels pointless playing Competitive when it's full of people who apparently don't realise it's not Call of Duty.

If all you do is look at the negatives and blame your team, you're not going to have a fun time.

Just communicate as much as you can and focus on your own improvement.

Yeah I've seen people who pick Pharah and Widowmaker then proceed to play them like they're just playing as Soldier 76 who's the closest to the CoD experience you're gonna get.
It's all well and good picking characters you like, but in competitive you need to actually make use of a characters abilities and realise it's not just a regular FPS.

I've seen people pick Mercy then proceed to spend an entire match with her gun equipped and never heal once.

This is proving impossible to me at the moment. I know I'm not terrible, but I also know I want to improve. I can't improve if 3 quarters of the teams I end up on are terrible which is the current rate I'm experiencing. Now, could we constantly be losing because of me? It's possible. But I find it incredibly hard to have a good game, to eke out a good performance, if the team around me is fragmented and silent. Playing support roles as I prefer, my performance is completely entwined with the performance of my teammates. So far, this has led to terrible games, bickering and name calling. Like I said before, once you get on a good team it's great but I've found this to be an incredibly rare situation when you're playing with randoms.

I had a game yesterday when someone picked Junkets, then the last person to pick suddenly started saying they wanted to play Junkrat as he was their main and they only played Junkrat.
When the person who already had Junkrat politely refused the guy started saying "Junkrat or troll" then just "Ok troll" and then picked Tracer and refused to leave the spawn room.

Yup. Very much so. Just went on with my mate for his placement matches. 5 games, 4 losses, between us we had at least 4 or 5 gold medals each game. I'm now down to 1590.

I don't get it, I really don't.

Sums up my thoughts on competitive overwatch.

Haha! Yeah, I'm feeling that at the moment. It's not fun with randoms, it's just frustration after frustration. Me and said mate are thinking of going on some LFG forums and grabbing an actual team.

33 competitive games played. 23 competitive games lost. 12 games played tonight, 10 games lost.

strawberry float this game.

EDIT: Not really, but still. Either I'm actually the worst player ever, or something weird's going on with the matchmaking. My mate, who's probably better than me, started at 1200SR. Which is ridiculous.

Seriously though, has anyone else experienced a losing streak like that? Because that's pretty ridiculous, considering before I entered competitive I was on a 55% win rate

I lost 8 or 9 games a couple of seasons back. Partially down to some bad teams but also down to shitty play on my part. Maybe set a limit on how many you'd lose in a row before you stop playing comp? I wouldn't be too worried about SR at this stage though, you're still relatively new to the game and probably playing against people who have many more hours put in. Just focusing on treating it as a learning experience IMO.

Yeah, you're right. I'm trying to do just that, but having a poor performing team does make it that much harder to perform yourself as a support. We very much got into a mindset yesterday of "just one more game and we can end on a high" but that high never came. I'm going to limit myself to 2 or 3 games at any one time now.

Is Junkrat suddenly really popular?
Once again yesterday had a game where someone had already picked Junkrat and then another person started spamming text and voice chat about how Junk was their main and they'd only play him and the other person had to switch so he could have Junkrat.

I've never seen this before and now suddenly twice in short order for the same character.

Also, if you can only play one character then you really shouldn't be going into competitive. Having a main is fine but you need some fallbacks that you can use as well.

Junkrat forms something of a 'meta' in bronze and low silver. People tend to wander into his grenades and die, & aren't good enough at aiming to destroy his ult.
