Just played a match in Quick Play where someone picked Mercy and then spent the entire match using her as an offense hero and just used her gun :fp:

I started playing this last night. I am 5/10 through my placement matches and it feels a bit bizarre. Im obviously unseeded but it doesnt seem very fair to be paired against already seeded players with their badges already. Im not taking it very seriously as Im just solo queuing though. 2w/3l atm.

The people I like best are Mercy, Sombra and Orisa. All of which are suboptimal choices, from what I can tell. Makes you feel more of a burden or a gimmicker than anyone useful.

Mercy is typically a good pick. I feel like she's probably the most reliable healer and can be a bitch to kill thanks to her guardian angel ability. Possibly my favourite character.

She is my favourite character in general, next to Zarya. People just seem to prefer any other healer to her; Zenyatta and Lucio are all I see.

Ill do some Mercying tonight if I play, I suppose. It will be interesting to see how it ranks your skill when you effectively do zero damage.

Mercy isn't suboptimal! You might have heard Ana is better, but that's only true at the very highest levels of play. For normies like us they're both great picks so choose the one you enjoy more.

Orisa is good at area denial, but lacks Reinhardt's options for initiating team fights & has a weaker barrier, so is considered niche for that reason. Consider playing Reinhardt on attack - I find he's more fun on attack because you get to charge in and hammer people! - and Orisa on defence where her zoning can shine. Remember that Orisa is countered by Widowmaker, so if you get killed by one switch to Reinhardt (if the team needs an anchor) or Winston (if you want to go get revenge).

If you enjoy assassinating people, Tracer is a better and more fun pick than Sombra. Sombra requires a particular style of play that I'm not too familiar with, but I think it involves dancing around the front lines with her teleport and invisibility, hacking tanks so that your team can pick them off. EMP ties into that by being a pretty powerful ult for initiating team fights. I have to be honest, she's kind of considered a bit of a troll pick but I think she's fine on attack -- on defence though there are better heroes: if you're interested in adding utility and making it easier for your team to pick off attackers, Mei might be your thing, or you could choose Reaper for front line tankbusting.

Tracer is an annoying banana split and the last thing I want is the crushing depression that can only accompany hearing her bullshit spouted first person into my ears rather than abstracted from across the map. Reaper is a clown and Im not a 12 year old nihilist, Im a 26 year old nihilist so have learned some subtlety.

Mei is a good shout if she is available. Reinhardt is fun from what Ive played in the PvE mode but is usually a first pick for some other eager beaver from what Ive seen.

Im good with soldier but its just so boring.

It's called "Kick em and run away" 8-)

Wallowing in the 1400s and don't think I'm getting out.

Can mange 2 games in a row before I have to put it down. Just so many idiots.

Reinhardts rushing off to try and PvP...no one playing objective (I was alone on payload cowering as Mercy while ALL the time went off to try and hunt down any players...including Bastion and Dwarf...)

How can people still be trying to (badly) play Team Death match on this

FEAR ME!!!!

 I've learned to laugh at Tracer and Reaper now, but yeah, as personalities they are terrible. Agreed re: Soldier being boring -- my favourite DPS is Pharah because I find the mobility interesting, but I find myself switching off her a lot if I notice the enemy has a lot of ranged hitscan.

Add me on Battle.net if you like - KarlAM#21661 - I play most nights, usually kicking off around half ten. Left to my own devices I would head to Quick Play but I'm equally happy to play Competitive. (I don't really like the Arcade modes or custom games, apart from Mystery Heroes which I guess is good for a laugh.)

Lucio is my most played character by a pretty big margin nowadays. I love the changes Blizzard made in the last patch. Can't stop won't stop!

Mercy, Lucio, Zayra, Symmetra, Mei or Captain CoD are my mainstays.

Sombra or Pharah if feeling different.

Mercy is the only healer I'm remotely decent at playing.
Mei, Mercy and D.Va are my mainstays though.

Mercy is great because she "sticks" to targets
Lucio is great cus of AoE and helps damage.

I can't do Ana. I'm not a good enough shot.

I think with her healing you don't have to aim precisely, so long as a friendly target is within the aiming reticule it hits. Think it's only opponents you need to be more precise with your aiming for.

Probably gonna get back into this once I get a new mouse at the end of the week. Not played since just after Ana was added so I'm gonna be shite again.

Yeah I keep seeing Ana described as top tier but lol how is that possible?

Her ultra is very good tbf when used with Soldier 76 or Winston

She out-heals Mercy significantly (EDIT: and does decent damage to the enemy on top of that!) if you have perfect aim. Only the pros have perfect aim though, which is why Mercy is still relevant all the way to Grandmaster. Mercy is IMO a better healer at basically all levels if you're just solo-queuing to play with randoms in Competitive.

I've basically stopped playing dps altogether, even in quick play i get told to 'change noob/bad dps!' and other petulant bollocks because i'm not nailing headshots 24/7 or something. I'm equally bad at tanking so that leaves defence and support but even then hanzo and widowmaker are out of the question. I tend to rotate between junkrat, zenyatta, symmetra and lucio almost exclusively.
