This reminded me quite a bit of Overland, although the gameplay is clearly different. I think it looks cool!

Yeah, I really liked the look and vibe of that preview! Apparently it's a "driving survival" game, which sure does sound like something a bit different. I'm definitely keen to see more.

No fresh news yet but, thinking about games releasing this year, it just popped into my mind and I pretty much started laughing as I pondered "first-person driving survival" .

Crazy stuff!

Eurogamer have had a preview of the game.

Pacific Drive's station wagon is a character in its own right, with its own quirks and foibles for players to learn. And, when you are isolated out in the pacific northwest with supernatural phenomena happening all around you, this car is one loyal companion you don't just need to have by your side. You're going to want it there too. After all, save for a few NPC interactions over the radio, you are alone out there. This car is your lifeline - the Wilson to your Tom Hanks, if you will.

As the storm closed in over the car, things became volatile. Bits of the environment started splattering the vehicle, lightning raged, rocks started levitating, the world turned a fiery red and the music pounded so intensely I felt it in my chest.

I really like the idea of this. No news of a release date yet beyond "2023".

The launch had been delayed from "2023" to "early 2024". A bit of a shame as I was looking forward to this but, as it's due to developer health and game polish, it seems like a good approach.

And... there will be a new trailer unveiled at the Future Games Show this week!

It seems that the "Early 2024" release window has changed to "Spring 2024"; which I'm guessing means April. Details of this "Deluxe" physical edition have been shared (at least, a US release... hopefully worldwide) but no news on if there'll be a "standard" physical version as well.

Me too Jawa - it looks great! Possibly my most anticipated games of 2024 right now (it's a short list mind).

Paul Dean, formerly of board game site Shut Up & Sit Down, is part of the staff on this game. Don’t know if he’s one of the writers or one of the designers but it’s been on my radar for a while because of that.

The latest trailer is great, really whets the appetite.

Lots of previews are being published and, from what I've read so far, things are looking positive.

Eurogamer wrote:There are a lot of ways you could describe Pacific Drive, I think. It's sort of an extraction looter, in which you tumble into horrible worlds and try to emerge with something worth stealing. It's sort of a blend of Roadside Picnic, the novel about scavengers who explore a strange area of wilderness that's been thoroughly messed up by passing aliens, and My Summer Car, the Steam outsider art classic about building and maintaining a real junker and then tooling it through the woods. These are all fine ways of approaching the game, but for me it's much simpler - and much more thrilling. Pacific Drive is a series of bad things waiting to happen to you...

...I swear that the Zone, which was terrifying and unpredictable already, only gains in strength. Rocks take to the air. Shadows loom closer. The storm gets worse. The road gets worse. Things crackle and spark and swing at the car as you dash, dash, dash towards that column of light eager to get home again, sorry you ever ventured this far. The steering wheel bucks in your hand, the tarmac won't lead where you want it to. Who knows how long that portal will remain open? It's horrible. It's brilliant. It's almost unbelievably stressful. It's Pacific Drive.

Plenty of other previews out there today, too.

Paul Dean is the main reason I'm interested in this
