The game does look good but I'm not planning to buy it at the moment, Fisher. I still have Super Paper Mario (Wii) and Paper Mario Sticker Star (3DS) to try out so I might give one of those a go :-).

If you try one Jawa, please try Super Paper Mario…. Throw Sticker Star in the bin.

I got Sticker Star new for something ridiculous like £10. It was overpriced.

Hehe! Sticker Star does seem to be quite divisive; almost marmite in terms of reaction. I've not really looked into it, but I believe that some folk didn't like the gameplay as much as in previous titles?

Super Papes on the Wii gets equally divisive views, too!

Sticker Star isn't marmite, everyone hates it because it's bad

I think Mafro pretends it's good because he hates Thousand Year Door.

Sticker Star:

1. They've removed all humour from the game.
2. No XP so there's no benefit to combat.
3. You're actively penalised by doing combat because you can only do attacks if you have a consumable number of stickers. So if you do a load of random battles you won't have enough attacks for bosses.
4. What this means is the game is spent avoiding enemies and backtracking for puzzles.
5. Oh the backtracking.

...oh dear - it doesn't sound great! Oh well, I guess I'll try it out at some point.

I played a little (maybe an hour) of Super Papes and I did like the "2D to 3D" presentation of it; it was pretty neat changing the camera angle on a scene.

It's actually incredible how pointless they made the combat.

Also, aren't the bosses basically impossible unless you have a special item which essentially one hits them? Or am I misremembering.

I was just reading about this aspect on a Metacritic review. Seemingly you have to "guess what enemy is appearing and guess what weapon/attack to take into battle"?

If you didn't bring along the special item, you can't even fight them aye.

Let's be honest - this is much better than both of those.

SPM is genuinely divisive. I really liked it! It wasn't perfect by a long shot, but it did some very clever stuff and playing as the four heroes was a lot of fun. Some good characters too.

Sticker Star, as other people have said, is just poor.

I didn't play much of Super Paper Mario but from what I recall it is a fine video game even if it's not the Paper Mario game you want. Sticker Star is broken on a conceptual level.

SPM did a good job of mixing the mechanics up while keeping a good story and good writing.

It’s not till you watch them back to back, how much of an upgrade that is over the original!
