I don't think I could. Imagine, when you want a new game, you have to go to the shop and buy a disc with the data on and then put into your computer and copy the data off it. You couldn't just download it immediately!

And even after you've copied the data onto your computer you'd have to put the disc in every time for no damn reason, so you'd constantly be swapping between game discs.

And then say in a few years time you want to go back to that old classic game you loved, but you've lost the disc. You can't just download it again or play off your install, you'd have to go buy another copy!

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Most of my PC games are physical media.

Not that I've got anything in particular against downloads...its just cheaper to buy retail games at the moment, you'd have to be mad to go download only.

Surely it's quicker to copy off a disc than download?

A disc that is in a shop miles away.

It's probably still quicker to go to the shop and get it. Depends where you live, and your internet speed, of course.

I downloading Killing Floor in the time it took me to eat dinner. If I wanted that then I would have had to wait for the shops to reopen and buy it then. Also most consolers seem to get their games cheaper online and wait for delivery.

I'm quite happy to wait and get it in a box.

I like boxes.

The only download games I've got are Portal and Audiosurf.

I haven't bought a physical copy of a pc game in two years, so I'm already there.

Well I have my games mostly delivered sometimes before release date if I'm lucky, someone said Steam wouldn't allow you to play before the release date?

I have to agree with $ilva here. I buy and play a lot of PC games and 80% of the time they are cheaper in a shop or from an online retailer. Steam can be great value when there is a sale on but the rest of the time I feel it's a bit of a rip-off and most of the other DD services aren't any better.

Also put me on the list of people who prefer physical copies of games.

So you're happy with your system, I'm happy with mine.

TBH the thought of downloading the 15GB of GTA IV on my Uni house connection is quite a harrowing one, believe me.

I'm not against downloading games at all, but when it's still cheaper to get the box, I'll have the box!

Yes, I could. Quite easily. Downloadable games usually cost more than physical media, and they take time to download. I like having a physical copy of the game, there's just something nice about it.

Of course, I enjoy Steam, and will happily buy games over it, but it's just too expensive a lot of the time.

At launch games are always cheaper at retail.

As for the time issue, you'll normally get the game before release if you buy the physical retail game online (where its also cheaper).

Theres just no real reason to buy any game off Steam unless its in the sale or download only.

Physical media only? strawberry float no. The number of times I've bought Baldurs Gate because of lost or damaged media...

I'd never thought of it like that. God DAMMIT. I'm sure this wasn't the point of the thread, but I've just realised that all of that applies to console games. Right, strawberry float this, I'm going to become a PC gamer.

Good point, add all those few seconds up each day and you may save as much as a minute :o

Or even if you're really lucky as long as it takes to boot Windows.
