tl;dr?

Once more, nope. Violating our posting guidelines can now have forum-wide consequences. You need to read this OP (all of it!) if you want to post here.

Welcome to the PC Gaming Thread IV!

I'm Gabe Newell, and I hope it's been worth the weight.

Posting Guidelines

The PCGT III melted down in true alpha nerd style. I hope this easy to digest bullet-pointed list of posting regulations will help us to avoid a similar occurance in this PCGT IV.

  • This is a thread for people who, by and large, enjoy PC gaming. Console supremacy arguments should take place elsewhere.
  • Intelligent discussion is fine, insults aren't. Ad hominem attacks will not be tolerated.
  • To clarify, intelligent discussion is fine. Arguing without even attempting to appeal to evidence or reason, especially the "I had fun" fallacy, will be considered flamebaiting.
  • Hardware help or guidance is not on topic in this thread. Please take off topic discussions to their appropriate threads.
  • Publically calling out violaters of these rules puts yourself at risk of punishment. Report idiots rather than engaging in thread-ruining arguments with them.

Those are more or less forum rules anyway and as such will be punishable with a warning, or a temp ban on repeat offenses, as per usual. Moving on, here's the big change, which I hope will make PCGT IV a better place for everyone:

  • At least some modicum of effort should be taken over every post. No more gooseberry fool posting.

gooseberry fool posting is defined as stupid low-effort single image or sentence posts, dumb "ironic" humour or moronic StayDead defence fodder. But Karl, sometimes those posts can be funny! If a post is considered funny, at the staff's sole discretion, then it will not be deemed a gooseberry fool post. But how can you expect us to be held to such a subjective and totalitarian regulation? If you can't deal with it, don't make idiotic gooseberry fool posts in this thread.

The punishment for violating this rule will be either a forum warning or a 24 hour ban, again at the staff's sole discretion.

What We Play

You can find the vast majority of us PC gamers on Steam. Steam is a shop, community event management system, chat program, anti-cheat client and server browser rolled into one all-knowing platform, maintained by Valve Software. It has amazing sales, is very stable and convinient, and has some of the least-obnoxious DLC in the industry. Download it, install it, join us.

We play a vast array of games, including Battlefield, Civilization, Counter-Strike, Day Z, Killing Floor, Left 4 Dead, Minecraft, Modern Warfare, Starcraft and Street Fighter. We usually start playing at some point between 1930 and 2030. Beyond that, feel free to post in the thread or join Mumble and ask, as you can find players of almost every PC game amongst us.

Controversial opinion time: I think this thread is surplus to requirements. Each individual aspect of PC gaming is best served by their own thread. Want to talk about a specific game? Post in the specific thread. Want to talk about the new Steam update? Post in the new Steam update thread. Mumble serves the role of organising multiplayer games, PCMT could probably be re-tooled into a general Steam thread and everything else will work well in their own thread. This thread basically serves as a place to gooseberry fool post.

Thanks for your opinion on the validity of our community thread. Strange concept that this series of threads has served as a hub for us for a long time before you showed up, indeed that anything existed before you showed up. I dont know how we managed.

Im sure you'll enjoy posting in your specific threads while we continue not giving a gooseberry fool whether or not we meet your model forum guidelines.

You are the hero PCGT deserves. :datass:

I will post in the specific threads for specific purposes, and also use this thread to cross posting (in the cases of funny screenshots) and use this thread as a way to communicate ideas with other pc gamers, who may be interested in such discussions Delusi.

Was this mentioned in the previous thread?

Mann vs. Machine is a new co-operative game for Team Fortress 2 that lets you and five friends wage a desperate battle to stop a lethal horde of robots from deploying a bomb in one of Mann Co.’s many strongholds. Take advantage of breaks between waves to upgrade your abilities and weapons. Survive all the waves in any of a variety of missions to earn incredible loot.

I'm not averse to horde mode in TF2.

I just wish they'd balance out the classes for the competitive game modes where you play against other teams of humans.
