I will buy if it can run on my laptop. I've got:

Intel Core Duo 2.1GHz
3GB RAM
GForce 8400M GS :fp:

I'm running Vista too.

I'm not all that fussed about getting the best visuals out of it, I'd just like to to run smoothly and look half decent.

Just about to buy the Orange Box...but I've never played Half Life. Will I be missing out on the plot and such?

Even if you don't have a PC or laptop to run the Orange Box properly, you should buy it for this price as it'll run on any future PC you get anyway. I'd pay £5.66 with no qualms for Team Fortress 2 alone. That's the main meat of this deal. Everything else is solid single player but TF2 is awesome multiplayer.

I'm confident that even someone who has no idea about any of these games or how good they are will get some kind of enjoyment out of them worth more than £5.66.

I'm confident that someone who does not like science fiction, first person shooters, puzzles, cartoons or violence, however well done it is, will STILL get some kind of enjoyment out of this worth more than £5.66.

Better just to buy it on a console and play it while it's still relatively good looking by modern standards. Even at a much higher price it's more than worth it.

Team Fortress 2 is a waste on the console :(

There's a time and place for the PC vs console crap. Let's leave that alone and concentrate on the price of The Orange Box on PC at £5.66. You're all going to have a PC that can do games well by the end of this year or the next, and for £5.66, you're not losing anything really, you're getting a fantastic package with at least one game in there that will still be played regularly for the next few years, which is Team Fortress 2 :D

Ever seen how hectic Team Fortress gold rush maps get on the PC? It's hilariously awesome.

No. Half-Life is alluded to, but isn't necessary to understand HL2.

Half-Life basically goes "aliens invade - you kill aliens - soldiers invade - you kill soldiers - you go to alien planet - you kill aliens", anyway. It's not plot-heavy (by today's standards).

It currently costs more to buy Team Fortress seperately than in The Orange Box.

Any source engine game should be able to run (i.e. work, at all) on most modern, retail, consumer-orientated computers.

If you spend over 300 quid on a computer from now onwards, chances are that you'll be able to run TF2 on minimum at least. £500 will get you something that will run it on max easily.

If my laptop could cope with it then I would buy it just for Team Fortress 2. It was great fun on the 360 but just didn't have enough people playing it. :(

Okay then so maybe certain Steam games don't work on the lowest end graphics hardware. But I've read that Source games can run on Eee PCs (even Left 4 Dead). Considering that's about the lowest spec computer you can buy for £300 or less then I would assume any other PC can run Source games. I even got Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 running on my laptop with a 2.4GHz Celeron, 512MB RAM and a crappy Intel video chipset, and that was about 5 years ago.. although HL2 did crash after about 10 mins of play, it still ran (albeit at 10fps). So again today I would expect current machines to be able to play those games on lowest settings.

And I do literally mean the games will run, but not that they will run any good.
