Played about 5-10 mins and this thought went though my head. Was real war actually this difficult? I mean it obviously hurt more, but was it this strawberry floating difficult to shoot people?

I'm only (half) joking. I did, loved R02, the maps and being able to see enemy players clearly. First Rising strom I just have PTSD from Kil killing me and frustration at where I'm going and whom I'm shooting.

Played about 2 hours of this over the last day. My first death where I just heard a ping and saw the screen cut to black genuinely made me jump. It may actually have been the most effective "war is hell" moment I've seen in a game.

Loving this game so much. It's been a while since I've really gotten into an FPS which is just making it all the sweeter. I've been listening to Vietnam war playlists while playing which has elevated the sheer awesomeness of some moments. Although some moments are better with the tense in-game music so it just depends on my mood at the time.

my biggest gripe with the game is the lighting effects of the sky. The highlights are blown way out and you can't see any detail - also there is now way to change the contrast options.

Oh, and there is no way to turn down audio levels for specific things such as: Arty strikes and Napalm etc...

I don't get paid until the 30th, so as soon as my rent goes out on the 27th I'll purchase this.

I grabbed a key from CDkeys. Never played a game in the series, tbh don't think I've heard of it but for £11-ish I thought why not give it a try.

How does this differ from games like the latest battlefield?

For a slightly more serious answer: It's a lot more realistic and 'hardcore' than Battlefield. You can't really lone wolf, you'll get killed a lot without realising what happened, you'll barely kill anyone else, numbers don't fly all over the screen whenever you do anything (in fact on most servers you don't even get notified if you've killed someone), you'll be almost as traumatised as you'd be in a real war and you'll have a bloody good time.

It's pretty much a PC FPS from 5-10 years ago. Dodgy server browser and all. How I've missed it.

Speak for yourself. Give me a flame thrower and I'll create numbers in the sky.

I have played RO2 for over 700 hours and all I can say is strap in, listen to what your commander and squad leaders have to say and you'll have a fantastic time.

Join a good community campaign server and play there all the time, you'll make friends and enemies, but it's all part of the fun.

Honestly if you're playing the game for the first time I would advise you to stay away from any power roles, pick the basic riflemen and soak in the atmosphere. When you feel comfortable killing people with it and communicating with others then move onto other roles. Watch and learn from other people. If you do, you'll go far.

If you want to jump in with Vanilla RO2 to begin with (or watch for Rising Storm 2 content) then this is one of the guys I play with all the time, he does really good tutorials. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCev3s4 ... ZvhKpkahoA

Just an FYI the original Rising Storm is currently free on the Humble Store, they play pretty much the same so if you want to try it out give that a go.
