Subnautica has left early access. Such a good game, so chill.

I only heard about the game this morning but Kingdom Come: Deliverance looks ace. It seems ambitious enough that the possibility of it being a colossal disaster is high, but I'm intrigued and it only comes out in a couple of weeks.

It can't be healthy to play like that regularly, surely.

Almost. I also have a 42" screen each side of the main screen to use as wing mirrors in driving games.

Yes?

That does look pretty neat, Dave. I've seen that the game is launching on PS4 and XBO too, so console peasants like me can try it out as well :) . It arrives on 13 Feb.

There's a chain of stores here that seems to still be selling cards at MSRP, they have some cards for $200 less than Amazon or NewEgg. That said their still overpriced as they're charging the same price as over a year ago!

Man, I was lucky to get my 1070 for £350 back in December...doesn't seem like it's a good time to build or upgrade a PC. Weren't RAM prices meant to have spiked too?

Yeah, smartphones have basically driven RAM prices through the roof as well.

A few companies are starting to release dedicated Bitcoin mining chips now though that are way more efficient than GPUs as the chips are designed to do literally nothing but bitcoin mining, so when those start hitting the market then it should help the situation.

How much have prices actually increased then? Are we talking ridiculous amounts?

I know nothing about what's a good graphics card now but this list here
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/products/video-card/

shows it's remarkably easy to spend way over £300 or even the £450 launch price of a One X just on a graphics card without buying something super silly.

These already exist, and have exited for years they're called ASIC miners...

Peter Crisp wrote:Am I missing something but isn't bitcoin volume limited so when they get to whatever the upper limit is those super snazzy bitcoin mining only PC's become giant paperweights.

Yes, and they've already mined 16 Million of the 21 Million total.

The news that now Samsung is going to start making ASIC chips as well won't do anything to bring the price of the video cards down because the increase is driven by Etherium mining, not Bitcoin. Etherium is designed to be ASIC resistant because it relies on the use of VRAM to be mined, this is done to keep the currency decentralized, which was one of Bitcoins main ideas but after the advent of ASIC miners the majority of the coins are now held by a few companies that build these chips and sell part of their production and use the rest to mine bitcoins.

The prices are totally insane though, I can't imagine there are that many people actually buying graphics cards for mining rigs that they would actually drive the prices up, it's just sellers now thinking they can charge more for their cards because there is a perceived shortage.

Look at this chart...

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/ethere ... 34928.html

My card, a 1060GTX was $250 when it was new, it's now $500! I could probably sell my used one and make a profit on it!
