I just saw this...

Damn the new Metro game looks pretty good, but there's no way those are in game animations...

GOG.com have their winter sale on, and you can buy games at a regular discount, or indulge in blind buying through their bullshit loot box 'star' system.

Am I mis-understanding this... you can pay to buy a game at random? . I guess some folk actually do this?!?

Surely better to buy a game at random that might be good than buying one you know will be gooseberry fool?

Are the STALKER games still worth a bash?

Absolutely, plus there's loads of mods to help improve the graphics, although personally I still think they look alright as is.

Oh yes, they're like a hard-core version of fallout.

Also worth mentioning: Grim Fandango Enhanced Edition is free on GOG right now. One of the most interesting games ever made, all spruced up for millenials. No excuse not to play it now.

Stalker is never not worth a bash. Start with Shadow of Chernobyl, skip Clear Sky, then Call of Pripyat. Download the SoC/CoP Complete mods for both and enjoy.

I have this on Pre-order and would love to tell you to have faith in the visuals but we've all been conned by prerelease videos.
I'm playing through Metro Last Light Redux now and loving it so even if there is a visual downgrade I think the game is solid enough that it'll be enjoyable anyway.

I don't know how you are with old/ugly/janky games but just stick with Stalker even if you initially think it's a load of wank. SoC is one of my favourite games ever and even I've bounced off it a few times when going back to it due to it's seeming ugliness or total lack of fairness. Just persevere. Though maybe you'll love it straight away!

Imagine Fallout 3/4 but not boring as strawberry float and with better combat.

When does the Steam sale start?

21st December.

I haven't uninstalled Stalker since getting it the week it was first released on disc. I bought it on Steam when it was released there as I didn't wish to mess about with discs.

I don't understand why people bash Clear Sky so much, it was the first Stalker game I played and I loved it. The only really bad part I can remember about it was the ending being kind of crappy and it bugged several times.

If it was your first stalker it might have been okay. But the game was launched with a ton of broken features, the faction wars was its most touted addition but it was totally broken. Also it was set as a prequel but makes no sense as a prequel as so many of the areas in it are more built up and populated than they are in SoC. Like the cordon area has a whole base built around the abandoned farm thats mysteriously missing entirely in SoC. Like the bandits packed up and took their whole base with them when they left before the events of SoC happened. There also way, way too much action thanks to the faction wars, you cant walk 5 feet without a gun battle breaking out which is kinda the antithesis of the lone stalker experience. Theres also some really ill fitting attempts at humour in there too which just feels totally at odds with the stalker world. Its not a bad game but its just not quite a Stalker game.

I've been trying to play Stalker Clear Sky the last few weeks (Fully modded), and am really struggling.

It just doesn't feel like a Stalker game. I think for the reasons stated above. I'm constantly being badgered to defend here, or attack there and there does't feel like an actual opportunity to go out and explore on my own. It reminds me a bit of GT4 and the annoying "Hey Nico, let's go play darts" parts.

Also I really don't like the Swamp starting area. No where near as interesting as the boat or Farm from the other 2 games.

Also, Fallout 4 VR made me very very sick.

Never suffered before in any other game. but 10-15 minutes and I was having hot flushes and thought I was going to puke.

I think I'm also pissed off with myself for paying £40 for this when Ive put almost 200 hours into the original. I think I will ask for a refund and then buy when on a sale as I think the lack of discount for people that already own FO4 for what in essence is a mod is a pisstake.

Looks really nice though for a VR game.
